Description
Tintin saw a perfect opportunity to sneak up on Felix and I saw a good opportunity for a picture. Win-win, I guess.I usually submit pictures of Tintin where he looks all cuddly - and he is very cuddly and superfriendly - but he's also a great hunter so I thought it was nice to catch that aspect of him on camera.

Yes, they can become really golden on photo if the light is right. I love that too.

Looks like it, how do decide what angle you want on a photo ?

RavenMontoya In reply to I-aint-no-alien [2017-02-24 22:10:14 +0000 UTC]
When I take photos of my cats I don't have much to say about the angles.
I take what I am given and try to make the best out of the situation, depending on what the cats are doing at the moment.
The good thing about cats are that they have no really bad angles. The look good in most photos.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I usually don't think so much, I just try to take photos that I find pretty. Not sure that's a good answer. Β

I guess I use the golden ratio quite often, but not exactly consciously. It's always a good choice though.

This is Tintin, but don't worry. He's the most loving cat you can imagine. He'd just cuddle back as much as he could. Β

No worries. It's not a requirement to keep track of someone else's cats. Even I mix up their names at times.
My old ginger kitty was called Simba so sometimes I call Tintin by that name just out of habit because the brain says that ginger cat = Simba. Fail, brain! Tintin is even named after a redhead. I should be able to remember it.
Hehe, Tintin loves treats and he's a pro at noticing the smallest possible rustle of plastic from the bag with treats. He'll be there in a flash.

Oh Tintin did you jump on Felix? Great shot of Tintin Β you certainly caught him in a moment. Β Like a little hunter.

RavenMontoya In reply to LuLupoo [2015-04-25 00:02:06 +0000 UTC]
He did and Felix beat him up. As usual. Not very hard though. They just play-fight.
Tintin is a great hunter. Birds are his speciality. He can jump up and take them mid-flight and then land on his feet like an acrobat, which is quite terrifying because he's my fluffy cuddle kitty and I don't want him to be a little bird murderer, but he is.
I scold him when he catches birds - because I love birds - but he doesn't care. Of course he doesn't. He's a cat.
He's always sooooooo happy when he catches one too so it's hard to not feel a little proud of him at the same time.

Oh no Tintin you beat up Felix! So glad you didnt hurt him
aww poor birds. I know its their nature to be that way. But it sadΒ
also. But I understand what you mean. Β
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenMontoya In reply to LuLupoo [2015-04-25 01:42:05 +0000 UTC]
Other way around: Felix beat up Tintin. Felix is stronger than the rest. And he's the boss. Β
Probably because he's a year older (two years older compared to Oliver), but also bigger as well. He's 5 kgs while Tintin, Gizmo and Oliver are 4 kg each and that's pure muscles. Β
I try to stop the cats if I see them hunting birds. That's the least I can do for "my" birds. A lot of them nests in and around the garden.
By the way, right now there are a couple of tawny owls hooting somewhere outside my window. Owls are cool!
The Swedish name for "tawny owl" is "kattuggla" which means "cat owl". Apparently someone thought they looked like cats, but I don't think so. It's a funny name though.

Oh that must be nice, an owl. They are pretty. That is
a strange name. lol. I doubt they would get along withΒ
a cat. Are they big?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenMontoya In reply to LuLupoo [2015-04-26 13:48:35 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, let's see. "The tawny owl is a robust bird, 37β46Β cm (15β18Β in) in length, with an 81β105Β cm (32β41Β in) wingspan. Weight can range from 385 to 800Β g (0.849 to 1.764Β lb)" , says Wikipedia. So it's a fairly large bird, but light weight. I've never seen one in the wild, I usually only hear them at night. They make an eerie, but funny sound.

I was going to say, if Tintin was taking the prime opportunity to sneak up on Felix, then it wasn't a win for the latter...but if he won the fight it's win-win-win, even!
π: 0 β©: 1
RavenMontoya In reply to Valadix [2015-04-25 12:05:15 +0000 UTC]
Haha, yeah.
Felix always wins. He's a real fighter. He had to protect the territory alone for a whole year before I got Tintin and Gizmo and the neighbours' cats beat him up pretty badly at least once a month before he turned two years old.
As a result he had to become really though to deal with that. My younger cats haven't had such a hard time since Felix has been fighting the worst fights for them, and he now kicks the intruding cats' backsides. He really is the king of the area. Goooood kitty.Β Β

RavenMontoya In reply to Valadix [2015-04-26 13:44:17 +0000 UTC]
Possums! What are they like? Can they be dangerous? We don't have possums in Sweden.
π: 0 β©: 1
Valadix In reply to RavenMontoya [2015-04-27 11:21:33 +0000 UTC]
They're quite vicious actually. One could mistakenly think that one is a "victim" character in a thriller movie if one is roused from half-sleep upon hearing a possum-fight in the backyard. They have very long claws, and some of them are sneaky little manipulative bastards who will pretend to be cute so that they can get close to one and either steal ones food or demonstrate how sharp their little cocking teeth are (as my left big toe will most enthusiastically testify!), though this normally only happens when they live in an area where they're exposed to people regularly (eg, the outskirts of a city or a heavily-visited national park) Technically they're a protected species, though goodness knows why, because they're fecking EVERYWHERE! I was originally a bit scared of my poor Pippin fighting with them, but I heard from someone - I think a vet, maybe - that in a cat vs possum fight, the cat will always come out on top, so then I was like "Go for it, little tiger! Show those twerps who's boss!"
...does that answer your question?

haha, love this picture! you captured well a little lion in him
it could be even better if you used a smaller depth of sharpness, so that the background would be more blurred. But still it has something fascinating about it

RavenMontoya In reply to Martah [2015-04-24 19:24:41 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
I'm not a fan of blurry backgrounds. I like when you can see the nature around the cat so it's a conscious choice not to use short focus actually. A matter of taste. Β

Martah In reply to RavenMontoya [2015-07-08 17:39:23 +0000 UTC]
oh, right the cat is so focused, so I thought it would nicely go along with focusing the viewer's attention on it (by using smaller depth of sharpness)
