The mountains where I live have (as far as I can remember) always been covered in purple at the beginning of every autumn. The heather used to blossom everywhere.

However some years ago there was a nasty cold snap during one spring and a lot of plants simply didn't survive. The heather suffered badly and the mountains turned grey with dead heather plants. It's taken many years for them to grow back and become green. More than six years, if I remember correctly.

That's why this year is totally amazing. The heather has made a complete comeback and it's blossoming everywhere just like it used too. I'm so happy about it. I had forgotten just how beautiful it is - and what a lovely fragrance it has. Such a lovely rediscovery.

I don't think Tintin cares all that much about the heather, but his orange fur makes a nice contrast against the purple so I'm glad he wanted to go on a walk with me over the mountains.
