Description Absolutely amazing cover medley of Jet Force music! [link] I listened to it almost the whole time I worked on this! This guy's take on JFG's already amazing music turns my geek heart into happy foam. C :
-----
I can confidently say this drawing has been waiting 13 years to be made. I've been in love with Jet Force Gemini since it first came out on the 64 in '97. It was the hardest, coolest, game I'd ever set out to beat. I didn't know it then, but beating it, turns out, ranks up somewhere next to' knocking out Tyson in Punch Out' on the difficulty scale.

But I did it. Twice. *sniff* =w=

I'll probably do another play through sometime soon, but in the meantime, some fanart. Looking at it now, I wish I'd of not clipped Vela in the head, but my original intention for the image was for it to just be a stand alone scene; only through the process did it evolve into a kind of "logo" style image. I may in fact do a variant of this in the future with Vela standing up.

Anyway! Long description, but I just can't express enough how much I love this game and I hope those who loved it too will like this humble offering to our very diminutive fanbase.

Oh, as an aside - and this is just bananas; while I was working on this, I kid you not...I was assaulted by ants. No joke. The kitchen is RIGHT BEHIND ME, but they didn't even care, they laid seige to my desk, and my tablet while I was drawing this. I had to stop and wage war with legit drones before I could finish this. True story, bro.

Duuude this is an awesome re-creation for the characters! The game takes forever to beat but it's well worth it (although I still haven't unlocked the Diddy Kong Racing track for multiplayer, it's the only thing I haven't completed...).

I'd kill to have a new JFG game. The detailing in the uniforms looks great here, and I'd love to see a version with Vela's face showing too. Lupus looks pretty vicious there, hahah. Pretty hilarious that you got assaulted by ants at the same time, yeesh.

Thanks so much! And yes - yes the game is a monster to slay, but damn if it isn't SO worth it when you do. I still feel great about it, to this day, like 13 years later. X D
I would...gosh, I don't know what I'd do for a new JFG game. What a damn thrill that would be. I'd probably never stop smiling.

Glad you like their little updates. C :
I definitely wanted to retain details that were heavily recognizable for the characters, like Juno's helmet visor and Vela's ponytails; Lupus's design allowed for way more adjustment since he'd still be recognizable regardless. C :

And yeah. Totally. I couldn't even be upset about the ants - it was just too perfectly weird a situation.

All that collecting of spaceship parts was a major challenge, but I also felt really accomplished by the time I'd done it! The game did great with having lots of rewarding cutscenes and such. It'd be amazing to see another game for it, though I'd hope they'd keep to the colorful characters and scenery rather than go the typical shooter route that's popular right now (I like both, but JFG's cartoony approach is so fun!)

They all look awesome, I think the darker armor would be great for a reboot game! They're very recognizable still, and yeah, Lupus is an easy one to spot regardless

Right?? It left you feeling so good after all the yelling at the screen, and forced pauses. You walked away from it feeling like you did something to that game. Of course, seeing Juno dancing was pretty great. Just think of what that could look like if some rogue start-up were to remake the game. Augh...I would just...I would love that. Like when CAPCOM remade the first Resident Evil. Ohmigosh. I couldn't even leave my home. In fact, I just replayed that game again - beat it last night. X D

Yeeep, it was one collecting-heavy game to beat, but it was rewarding! I loved the end sequences, no matter how Star Wars-esque they were. For the N64, they were top notch graphics of the time, and the dance scene on the credits was pretty great. Heck the whole Big Bug Fun Club was awesome. There were lots of fun hidden things in all of Rare's games which added a ton of appeal for finding easter eggs. I'd love a remake if it was done right, ugh so much awesome. I'd prefer that they stick to a cartoonish look myself, one of the things I loved about JFG was how colorful it was in comparison to the more dull toned shooters of today, even though I enjoy them it wouldn't be as suitable to Jet Force hahah.

Oh god I miss JFG so bad.

I was horrible at actually playing, but my brother is super gaming man so he'd play and I'd be the little robot and pew-pew the world to death because I WAS INVINCIBLE! HA HA HA!

I miss it super hard too, though I can still play it on my N64. : D
Lol, I loved playing as Floyd. He was untouchable. For whatever reason my brain seized and I didn't put him in this image, but he's in the alternate one: [link] : D

Oh my god this is so fantastic!! I really really would have loved to play Jet Force Gemini, and seeing this makes me want to track down a copy of the game and fire up the old N64 for some good times.

: D Thank you!!
It really is such a great game. I'm sure you could find a copy on ebay somewhere.
Oh, also, becuase I just posed it and I'm super excited; I just redid this, and the new one is nicer. X 3 [link]

JFG needs a new game.

I could not agree more. I mean, really, even just a straight reboot would be amazing. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Plus with the processing power of modern systems and the evolution controller designs, a lot of the game's previously received criticisms would be addressed. It could still be tough as hell though - I'd be ok with that. C :

Tounushi In reply to ravenshield [2012-08-22 08:44:29 +0000 UTC]

Even the aiming and control would easily translate to the Wiimote. I think it would be even easier than it was on the N64.

BTW, still have the game. Still haven't finished it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ravenshield In reply to Tounushi [2012-08-22 08:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh definitely. The wiimote would be a great platform for it, and I think it'd move over well to their standard controller too. On the 64, the controls were challenging to get used to, but once you had it you were good. It was just a stiff learning curve that I'm not sure folks were ready for.

X D You should totally go beat it. You are rewarded with quite a few fun things when you do. Plus, you know, you can say you beat Jet Force Gemini; that's like saying "I knocked out Mike Tyson". Or, "I played Pac-Man until it just stopped generating levels".

Tounushi In reply to ravenshield [2012-08-22 10:28:04 +0000 UTC]

The phase I'm in is more like "where to now, and with who?" rather than it being too tough. I can brute force levels, but I simply don't know where to go.

Higher on the list would be Journey to Silius and Super Mario Bros. (I've never beaten the last castle, even on all-stars). And Return of the Joker, Faxanadu, Probotector WITHOUT the Game Genie, Jurassic Park II, and a few others...

Ah yes - and there was a great deal of planet hopping to do; all those tribals and such.
Of that list, I have beaten Super Mario Bros.; the others I either haven't played or also had not been able to slay. Game Genie and Game Shark were such heroes. X D

Amazing fanart and thanks for that link! I treasure Jet Force so much. It's my favorite game tied with Deadly Premonition.

Thank you so much! I've never gotten to play Deadly Premonition, but I've heard it's quite an experience! I love it when a game reminds you that the world doesn't totally revolve around your character and that other folks have "lives" there too.

Oh my god, someone else remembers Jet Force Gemini. This is AMAZING, Rave! I love the detail and colors!

And as for those ants, they be tryin' to get in your pants. 8D

ravenshield In reply to RobotMaster3 [2012-08-21 23:26:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, I love this game like I love the blood in my body that makes me alive. It's just such this hidden treasure in gaming's past. I know it's just the longing fangirl in me to think it, but I'd love more than anything to see a rebooted version get produced, or even a sequal. I know it'll never happen - hell, people didn't know about the game when it was new. I can dream though. =w=

And those ants were doing their damnedest to see this image go incomplete. The situation was so surreal I couldn't' even be mad. I've never had a problem with ants here before - all of sudden I do Jet Force art and I'm getting assaulted by a rogue force of ants coming at my tablet??
The Universe is so awesome and bizarre.

Attacked by ants? I think it has legs.

I don't really remember this one, but it was probably back in one of what I call me 'Dark Ages' where I was pretty much completely cut off from the gaming world in general.

ravenshield In reply to BlackAeronaut [2012-08-21 23:11:57 +0000 UTC]

This game kinda' came and went totally under the radar. There was little to no advertising for it and I think most people first spotted it on a rack for rent at Blockbuster - back when that was a thing.
Most times too, people didn't like it. It received a lot of harsh criticism that it was simply too difficult. Some people really loved it though - I was one of those. X 3
It was super groundbreaking, combining elements of several styles of gameplay, he graphics were pretty boss, and the music in it was unbelievably fantastic.
Hell, if you still have an N64, I'd recommend getting a copy of it off ebay. : D
