Description [For best view please click Download Image]
Character reference sheet for my Warforged War Medic*, Asclepius.

Asclepius was forged by House Cannith in Sharn, midway through the Last War. He was a special purpose model, considered a weak-make, and hence only forged a single time.
He is much smaller and lighter than the average Warforged and presents with many obvious physiological differences; booted feet, larger optics, and hands baring four digits and a thumb.

Asclepius proved a poor fighter, an inept magic user, and a laughable athlete. For desperation of any function, the House began training him in the art of non-magical healing. His keener optics and more delicate, dexterous, hands made him an ideal candidate for executing precision surgical procedures; His ease of focus and apparent lack of mortal fear, made him practical for use in the battlefield. He would receive many mechanical alterations to his body over this period to better facilitate his possition.

Now, after the close of the war, and the Treaty of Thronhold having granted him freedom as a sentient being, Asclepius wanders seemingly without destination, to continue his work - learning endlessly to treat any and all who may come under his knife.
-----

Asclepius, while well-intentioned, is aggressively tempered. He seemingly has no patience to handle social situations and prefers to stay out of them. He has accumulated very few friends throughout his lifetime, and would protect them fiercely. His surface agitation is usually apparent in his propensity to be verbally short and abrasive with others.
As a Warforged, he does not sleep. So to ward off insanity, he studies his trade or reads human literature (generally romance novels, as the subject of human love remains one of the aspects of their species he still can't diagnose). He also keeps a journal as a means of sharing his thoughts, without sharing his time with others.

Asclepius presents with many mental qualities not common to Warforged as well; such as a lack of desire to follow orders, removal of aspiration to fit in among others, and rare moments of forgetfulness - Warforged' memories are naturally eidetic, allowing them to account for every minute of their lives from the moment they were forged.
-----

Asclepius has since found residence, as Physician, on the airship Argo among a rattle-trap group of adventurers. He can not much relate to any of his compatriots, but after serving several campaigns with them, has come to identify them as his friends, and possibly, the closest thing to a family he has ever had. Over the course of these death defying adventures, he has come into charge of a small dog named Scruffles and a tiny, basely intelligent, gelatinous cube which he has named Caduceus.

While he has set up a generously sized, stocked, O.R. and personal chamber on the Argo, he, and his new-found compatriots, still wander the world in search of greater understanding, experience, and adventure.

[*War Medic is a "Peach" class, non-magical healer, created by players for use in private campaigns.]

I really like this guy's design - his little in-built features and unusual (for a warforged) bodily features highlight him as unique in function and personality.

I also love that he has a dog named Scruffles.

(Forgive the lateness of my reply!)

I really appreciate your comment; I had such a fun time designing this character, and my DM allowed me to be so specific as to his appearance, since I did want something a bit different.

The class of WarMedic was a peach class that I discovered on some DnD forums and I loved it. It was what I always wanted, a non-magical healer type. For that, I felt it was best to have a smaller framed Warforged, with much more relatable physical features. It would help to bridge an emotional gap between him and his patients (which during the great war would have primarily been human).

The dog, hahaha...oh, the dog I acquired from an elderly man of whom I'd rescued from certain death in a campaign. The airship we were stolen aboard lost control of it's elemental and the monstrous thing tore the ship to shreds. I spotted the old man, grasping the dog, in the free-fall and grabbed him and his pooch - I had a feather-fall I then used to spare us all. In his thanks, the man gave me the dog, which was originally to be gift of hubris to his impatient and greedy wife. He felt the animal was better left to my care. He had haphazardly named the pup Scruffles, and so, like a good Warforged, I honored the name and resolved to keep it. Because to receive a name is a great moment in one's life, lol. I find it funny to imagine my surly medic calling out "Scruffles!" to the animal, haha.

It's no problem, really! it's always nice when someone actually gives a reply!
It's always nice when a DM allows for specificity. He definitely looks less imposing than other warforged, even the wizards I've seen are really 'meatily' built.
and that's certainly an impressive way to make a friend and a pet! though now I have to wonder how you came across Caduceus x3!

Thank you so much, Sander! That really means a lot to me coming from you. I am thoroughly impressed with your designs.
Asclepius was always a really fun character to play and easily one of my favorites over the years. Since making this sheet, he's actually gotten his non-transforming forearm retrofitted with a mounted self-reeling harpoon gun, haha.

I really appreciate that! He's certainly been one of my favorite characters to play over all these years. In fact - I've been dying to take him on another adventure. I'll need to give my DM a call. : >

Lol, you are the first to notice that. It's etched into him forever. Or at least until he gets it buffed out, I guess. C X

He looks really well-thought out, Rave. The head tattoo design is a nice touch as well.

I can't really find any glaring flaws in this, but if I were to be anally nitpicky, it has to be his facial area. I've not played DnD enough to know of the Warborns, but you could have at least customized his face to be a bit more expressive.

Again, that's just be being nitpicky. Other than that, you've done a marvelous job.

Thank you! He is easily one of my favorite DnD characters to date.
I can see where you mean about his face, though believe it or not - he's likely more expressive than most Warforged out there. The "Standard", mass produced, Warforged look like this: [link] . They were designed, essentially, as tools. Facially, most have those huge 'scoop' mouths, kinda like Gutsman.
Probably doesn't help that Asclepius is just staring straight ahead like that either. I really should have included an image of his face in motion. He's got little metal shutters he can use over his optics, like eye-lids, to convey emotion, and his jaw is on a loose hinge just like our own; so he can move it more than just up and down. : )

Next time I will have to draw a picture of him making expressions. *business-like nod*

I'll be looking forward to it, Rave. Knowing you, I'm sure he'll have a good variety of expressions.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't give him a Ratchet-ish face, considering he's a medic bot.

ravenshield In reply to RobotMaster3 [2010-05-29 18:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, ya; to me, his personality mirrors Ratchet's a good deal. I love Ratchet so much and I feel like his attitude is the perfect mentation of a rough war medic.
I didn't go with a more detailed face though because Warforged, as a race, are actually supposed to look expressionless and somewhat identical. Their faces only really echo human familiarity (symmetrical face, two eyes, nose, mouth - though Warforged do not have noses). So I actually did up Asclepius's face a lot more expressive than the average. He has a full range of jaw motion though and those shutter-like "eyelids" I plan on drawing him in with will really help him make recognizable faces and things. I can't wait to get those ranged expression images drawn up. C :

You have excellent illustrations, and I admire the inclusion of medical tradition. In that light, I believe you want to say that the posterior of the hand on the R. Field Surgical Arm bisects, not the anterior.
