Description
The sounds of crunching snow could be heard as Yuki, in her humanoid form, made her way back to camp. The demoness's irritable grumbling was soon heard as she could see the camp just ahead. She was nomadic, thus never stayed for too long, only long enough for the latest news about the Kingdoms and hunting grounds before returning to her den high in the mountains. However, this time was slightly different. An old friend has requested her presence. The woman sighed as she placed her hands in her tunic pockets as she stepped into camp."Milady! Lady Yuki! It is truly an honor to be within your presence! This lowly one isn't worthy!"
The Nomads all gave their greetings to the one had fought and won many battles. Yuki ignored them for the most part, snarling only when someone dared to touch her person. A small group of children soon joined on her walk, bombarding her with questions about her adventures. Between the crowd and the kids, she was getting a headache.
"Don't make me rip out your precious voice boxes."
She said coolly as she continued on her way, not even bothering to look at her, inwardly smirking as the crowd fell silent and dispersed. As for the kids, she quickly dismissed them soon after reaching her friend's tent. Stepping inside, she was greeted by the scent of raw boar and her friend using her claws to slice the meat into smaller pieces. This should prove entertaining, Yuki thought.
"Come sit. It has been awhile."
The jaguar demon known as Haru said while taking a seat. Yuki raised a brow suspiciously, closing the distance between them quickly. Haru merely guided her to a chair, gently tugging on her arms which caused her to sit. Yuki growled lowly, daring him to touch her again. Haru chuckled as he gave her a leg, only to burst out laughing as Yuki snatched the leg from him and began to eat like a starving pup.
"Yuki, you haven't changed. Still a glutton I see."
"Cut the pointless chatter. Why am I here?"
She snapped, narrowing her amber orbs while she ate. Haru sighed before digging in himself, pausing to speak once in a while. Oh, how he wished Yuki would calm down. She was snappier than usual. But why?
"Well, as you know, we Nomads -"
"Get to the point of where I give a damn."
Yuki hissed, flexing her claws impatiently. Yup, she was pissed. But how was one supposed to go about talking to her without it resulting in a fight? It was never easy. Precautions would have to be taken. He would resume his talk after calming the hostile wolf down.
"What's with your hostility, Yuki? Granted, you're always snappy; however, you are more so than usual today."
He said out of concern. He had an idea, but it was never acceptable to assume..... especially with Yuki. She was so hard to know, so hard to understand. He sighed. It wasn't the time to dwell on such things. He barely heard Yuki respond because he had zoned out.
"I said I am fine, Haru. Enough of me."
She replied, her voice slightly calmer than before. She only called him by name when she desired his full attention. Stupid males. Yuki's tail thumped against the chair impatiently, the demoness's brow raised as she turned her head to speak with him. Something was going on here. Thanks to her rank, she had free rein to come and go as she pleased. She didn't have to stay and deal with the crap that came with staying in the camp.
"Speak now or I leave."
She growled, earning a sigh from the panther. He could see there was no way of calming her. Someone was going to die today. No one would try to stop her... simply because they knew she had no problem with disposing of those who got in her way. Finishing his meal, he took the leftovers and placed them in safe keeping. He then turned back to his companion, crossing his arms as he opened his maw to speak.
"Some of the tribe believe Dai has reached his limits as a leader. We both know the customs. Challenges will be made soon. Many desire you as the leader because of your strength and experience."
He explained calmly, shocked he wasn't interrupted. He studied her carefully, watching her small expressions dance across her face like fire licking the air. He raised a brow as she rose from her seat, following her movements to the tent entrance. He had to keep her here for a bit longer. Other matters had to be discussed.
"There's something else too. While many desire you as the leader, much more do not understand your desire for taking in.... strays. Your half-breed pets -"
Yuki's snarl cut him off. He recoiled, taking a step back while he tilted his head to the right to reveal his neck. A sign of submission she would recognize. A move which would keep him alive. She released a satisfied snort, crossing her arms before speaking, and her voice cold as the coldest night.
"They are mine."
"Of course but the male? He's mated to Golden Boy's daughter. How is he not dead?!"
He reasoned, his tone soft as he returned to his seat. The entire tribe knew about her possessive streak, only Haru had the courage to speak to her about them. The rest would just up as stains upon the ground.
"She is not my concern. She is his. If she lives or dies tomorrow, so be it. However, no one is allowed to touch her. The male amuses me."
"See! Thatβs exactly what they are referring to! You protect her! Hell, your brother could have had his fun torturing her but you keep that sadistic bastard back at the den."
Haru retorted, throwing his hands into the air in frustration. Yuki never made any sense. No one knew what she had planned next. They loved and respected her, but her behavior confused them all. He had known Yuki for several hundred years and even he got headaches from her spontaneous actions! She had been raised to be the perfect warrior. Just what was going through her head?!
"My brother is not needed. As for the girl, it is only to keep him from whining."
She explained, turning from him to exit the tent.
"You mother him?!"
Haru said in horror, his eyes widening to their fullest.
"I should kill you for thinking of something that absurd."
She snapped while exiting the tent. He could hear her transform into her true self, a white wolf with gray undertones. He quickly exited the tent himself, smiling at his friend. It had been awhile since he had seen her like this. She was the only demon, besides her clan that could take an animal form. He nodded a farewell before she took off towards her lands. He knew she would think about the offer and would return.
