The city was empty, the air was chilled. As he walked through the town, Rawk noted some familiar places. There was the restaurant he'd first brought her to, all those years ago. There was the theater where they had had their first kiss. He smiled a bit and moved along. Those were all well and good, but they weren't what he was here for.
After a bit more walking, Rawk came upon the building he remembered the best of all. It was in shambles, and he wasn't particularly surprised. All that was keeping it together was the ice that held the walls, after all. Still, he stepped inside, ignoring the ever-increasing cold even as he felt chilled to his very bone. He headed straight to the room he knew best of all, and laughed in spite of himself when he looked inside.
Nothing had changed, except for the thin layer of ice that coated everything. He sat down on the bed and looked at the ceiling. Tears slowly filled his eyes. That stupid damn picture was still pinned up there. She'd said she wanted to see him every night, even when he had to go home. He stood up and pulled the little photo from its place. It didn't need to be stuck here anymore. He placed it in his breast pocket, then looked around the room once again. "...I'm sorry, babe. I know you loved it there. But at least this way it'll keep us together a bit longer..."
He hopped off the bed and took one last glance around the room. "I'm sorry I never got you out of here like I promised. I guess you're free now, though." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, and for the briefest of moments he could have sworn he felt her arms wrapped around him, her lips brushing against him as she whispered in his ear.
"Welcome home, my love."
