Description
Middle East series again, published as an editorial comic in the Fall of 2001. Drawn in about 30-40 minutes, on smooth Bristol Board with a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil w/ HB graphite, a vinyl erasure and no visual references. The original, suggested caption mentioned Osama bin Laden and his possible improper use of the principles of Islam, as expressed in the Koran. Of course, this is a hot and debatable topic and extends to bigotry contained within other holy scripts and texts as well. If I could change the drawing a little, I'd simply spell 'Koran' several different ways (ie Quran, Qur'an or Kuran) and maybe make the character a little less cartoony.Related content

I like the symbolism very much. It's frustrating to see what is done in the name of Islam, knowing there are many Muslims who disagree with the terrorist acts that are done as "Allah's Will."

Thank you. It's hard for me to not say more and I should measure my words, but the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (notably Sayyid Qutb) went well out of their way to popularize the idea that killing innocents in the name of Islam, as part of jihad, was justifiable and Islam is now paying the price for it.

Yeah, I am not sure how they can really, legitimately suggest that a divine being would endorse all of the hate and killing. Thank you for the compliments.
