Description
Sadly, I don't think I will ever finish this. There is architecture from different cultures and periods in history mixed together into one building in this prospective drawing. The idea behind this piece was to show how people fit into perspective (i.e. showing how people get smaller in the distance). I basically finished most of the sketch but can never find time to paint it.Related content

Wowzers! This showed up under a popular catagory somewhere?~! That's freaking awesome! That is soooo cooool! Thanks for telling me and leaving me this awesome comment.. This actually was a school project! I hope your project comes out well~! I love perspective/technical art projects! It always stretches your creative sense to make it fun and interesting. Technical drawings can be so boring.

it looks nice the way it is if you did paint it, perhaps you might want to keep the monotone? haha it's up to you.

Hoooly crap, this is just the kind of stuff I could whip out. I've been buggering around in Painter with similar ideas lately but I always fail because I lack what really *makes* this picture: a solid understanding of architectural details/ornamentation. Stuff like the support rods between the columns and the arabesque arches.
Anyway! I'll shut up now and + fave.

RayArray In reply to Sairobi [2005-11-20 15:51:18 +0000 UTC]
Oh.... THank you soo much! Coolness! You think my support rods look convincing!
This kind of perspective takes me FOREVER. Example : My perspective point will accidentally shift through my lack of carelessness and huge sections need to be redrawn. Totally infuriating. Anything slightly off is noticeable. This is the level of finish I gave up at. Tight enough for me to go back and color. I hate rulers. I hate working bigger than my tabletop.
But, perspective is fun. Power to create stuff that looks real! If your worried about an understanding of details/ornamentation, check some architecture books out of the library and keep them around the studio. That works for me, 'cause I donβt even know which arches you think are βarabesqueβ... Anyhoo, I would love to see what Painter can do! I would love to see what a digital master like yourself could pull off (in most certainly a shorter span of time). <3
I'm dying to make another one of these that is finished and colored, but, I lack the time for it right now. Also, if I have to scan anything in 6-8 pieces in the future and tile it in photoshop.. I'll probably shoot myself.

The details look very good. The composition has a smooth look to it even if it is not finished. Fine form and perspective.

My god, this is how I would like to develop my architectural drawing skills too. This is also why I am not an architecture.
Great concept, though. You never know, months from now you may pick this up again and set it down to only finish it up a year or so from now. Great work takes time, patience, and--you know--sometimes rest.

Hehe. Thanks.
I think I needed someone to directly tell me to put it down and get some sleep. I really gotta paint this, but it doesn't have to be tomorrow. Cause I have to go to work tomorrow anyway, right? I've already spent to much time on it to give up now. As I look at it, there are still areas that look bad because I scanned it in like 8 pieces and tiled it in photoshop. But, now that I have the file in a digital form, I could get it printed on canvas or illustration board not worry about messing up my original sketch.
Honestly, this was really easy to put together. I made photocopies of different types of architecture and made a collage of it. The collage was pinned up on my wall. I spent some time thinking about how to create a single vanishing point. I made tons of marks on the collage with sharpie marker and used that as reference as I drew. It was really fun. I hope that doesn't ruin your option of the piece, because it takes away a bit of the mystery of it. But, if you want to develop perspective, it might be a technique to try. It was fun and works really well. I wish I knew more about 3d programs, because someone could create some crazy architecture in one of those programs and use that as reference for a piece... hmm..
Anyhoo, using rulers and technical pencils takes tooo long. I hate not having any color or texture either.
This is probably more info than you expected from me. But, you really got me to think about this seriously.. again. THank you!
