Description
Update on Sept 1st 2013: I remade the tutorial almost completely because the old one kinda sucked. If anyone is interested about the old version it's here: i.imgur.com/VrFRPVE.jpgSince I get asked about which tool I used a lot, this improved version is done with the basic brush tool.
Whew
Anyway, when ~Rustic-Moonlit-Rose commented that the fire in raycrystal.deviantart.com/art/β¦ looks amazing I said that tutorials could help her but she said that there aren't any for Sai really and I noticed that too so I thought I could make one since I like drawing fire
So yeah... I hope it's good
By the way, I used the watercolor tool (like I always do).
Since people are asking about it, the settings I use are 0 for blending, 50 for dilution, 80 for persistence.
EDIT: Holy f--- O_O I wake up in the morning and what do I find...? 2000 faves!!! +40 watchers more
EDIT2: ...omg. A DD? I can't believe it, oh my god thank you so much!!!! O_O *does not know what to say*

Well yeah, since it's really hard to blend well with a mouse :'D

What is a "Luminosity" layer? Is it program specific?
π: 0 β©: 1
RayCrystal In reply to Kitta-Furen [2014-05-01 09:15:22 +0000 UTC]
Luminosity is a layer mode which you can choose from a drop box usually near the layers in the program. There are layer modes in at least Sai, Gimp and Photoshop, I'm not sure about other programs

So what do you mean by 'soft brush'?? For that did you just lower the density or what?
π: 0 β©: 1
RayCrystal In reply to CaliBolt273 [2014-02-22 20:38:03 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, lower the density and add blending or just use the watercolor tool, works too.

Question~ You said that the new version is done with basic brush tool... what are the settings for the fire? Is it the same with the old watercolor settings? ;u;

Ahh I think I should have added that too, I just don't really fiddle with the settings ever so I didn't remember xD
Blending 0, dilution 50, persistence 0

I don't have Sai, but I wanted to drop in and thankyou for this tutorial. It was incredibly helpful! I used it on a picture and am in love with how it turned out. The link to it is below, but regardless, thankyou!!!

Haha the SAI part is maybe a bit pointless indeed since you can do this with anything XD Originally I just added it since most of the fire tutorials were for Photoshop as they needed Photoshop-exclusive effects but oh well..
Anyway I'm happy that it helped! That drawing is really neat, fire's looking good!

Either way it's amazing how generalized it is, and how easily it can be utilized in any program (which is awesome!). Photoshop is like SO MAINSTREAM...-coughjustkiddingcough-
But seriously, it is nice to find tutorials that show you new things without making it specifically for one program. It opens a ton of doors and windows and stuff; again, it's truly appreciated.
And thanks so much! It'll take some playing around to figure which brushes work best for me(oil pastel is great and all but some exploring will be fun). That fire~ it is HOT thanks again!

Haha yup and even if I had Photoshop, I'd find it boring to make everything using only effects and filters XDΒ
Anyway, I'm very glad you like it~ ^^

I think it works the same way haha. I've just used a dark background here because it adds contrast and looks cooler xD
