Description This man was in an ad in Vogue and the woman looked waaaay too happy to be there and waaaay too airbrushed. I have so many complaints about Vogue and fashion mags in general, I could write a seethingly angry book.
So I added an aprehensive lady instead.
Because why do couples always look so happy in these rags? In my experience, couples are always whispering sad things to one another under trees at parties and getting mad or feeling hurt. Then everyone else looks on silently, feeling the tug between loyalties as they think, "I've got to pick a side if they break up!"

Prismacolor in my fake moleskine.
Everyone listen to "Happy Loving Couples" [link] by Joe Jackson. It's all I love in music, especially sounding like an Elvis Costello song.

-poking around in your older work-

The shallow skin-deep happiness is plainly obvious to me too. Your concept of it is amazing. It shows that there's not always rainbows and butterflies in life, but for everyone else, it just feels better to pretend it's all okay.

Thank you so much, Ashlie! I see shallow relationships a lot and they CONCERN me.

That's why I prefer Rolling Stone. <3 EVERYONE pouts in those.

I know--and at least everyone is represented in those. Then again, even musicians these days think they have to have to be models, which is totally pointless.

But sometimes really pretty. Though more of the glamour shots I like come from Style. xD

Love your use of bright red here--it's in the right places and draws a contrast between the moods of the man and the woman.

Thanks very much! I always appreciate an intelligent comment. I suppose I make subconscious decisions that end up making sense to the piece somehow.

Funny how that works, isn't it? I find much of the same...I never realize I've made certain design choices until other people point it out to me. Anyway, glad I could oblige
