Description The tremolo call of the common loon represents the essence of the North Woods. These beautiful birds are so fun to watch, but they will let you know if you've come to close, as I found when I approached this loon in my small paddle boat, resulting in the entire lake being woken up at 6:30 AM.

Big Sand Lake - Minnesota

This photo also represents a transition for me, as I have relocated to Minnesota to be closer to family. I look forward to exploring the wilderness of the North Woods!!

so, I have a D300s, it's nice to know I COULD take pictures like this, but I just need the opportunities!! it's a very beautiful picture. was it cropped at all? I saw a loon with a young one a couple months ago but couldn't get close enough with my 200mm lens, and my lack of experience means some pretty poor shots XD

I suppose it didn't help that it was pretty cloudy out either lol. or the dirt on the lens . . . LOL

"resulting in the entire lake being woken up at 6:30 AM."
...hence the name "loon"

Such clarity! wonderful capture!

Wait, what?!? You relocated? Wow! Well, I hope it works out for you... Hmm the "northern wood" eh? Well, let me know if you come across the 100 acre wood.

BTW, you might want to update your devious info which still says "Seattle, Washington"
