Description Pandora and the Tree of Knowledge is an oil on canvas and is 30”x 40”. The story behind the painting is a combination of the Greek myth of Pandora and Eve from the Bible. Both women were the first woman on Earth and they both did something bad, Eve eating the forbidden apple and Pandora opening the box and releasing all the evils of the world. To represent Eve I added the apple tree and the snake. The jar is there because in the original story Pandora didn’t open a box, it was a jar. It was changed to a box when it was translated to Latin in the 16th century. I didn’t want her dressed in old Greek clothes, because I wanted her to be more modern.

Very effective blending of hues to establish light and texture.  I particularly like the light reflecting off of the subject's face and arms.

This is great! I love the combination of the two stories, and the inclusion of the jar. (If anyone told me it was a jar before it was a box, I've forgotten, so I learned something new today!) And the fact you didn't stick with the same-old-Grecian-clothes makes it even more relate-able. I thought the box looked like a dark Tiffany lamp at first. (Man, that makes me feel old when I think of a Tiffany lamp and everyone else thinks 'laptop'. XD; ) Nice effect having the apple tucked near the box, too. Combines the two evils very well.

And if I may... Snakeee~ Great detail on the snake. <3 The coils look so realistic~ (Sorry, had to spaz out over my favourite animal. XD)

Spaz all you like! I was surprised about it originally being a jar. I guess it sounds better as Pandora's box rather than Pandora's jar. Thanks for taking a look and the comment. Appreciate it much.

I love the way this ties together those two stories. It really helps to get across a modern message as well, since the open lid reminds me of a laptop!

That's funny, I hope your okay after your sudden death. Someone commented with a heart attack earlier, but you are the first to die. I didn't expect it would have such an effect. Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked the painting.
