Description Pandora and the Tree of Knowledge is an oil on canvas and is 30”x 40”. The story behind the painting is a combination of the Greek myth of Pandora and Eve from the Bible. Both women were the first woman on Earth and they both did something bad, Eve eating the forbidden apple and Pandora opening the box and releasing all the evils of the world. To represent Eve I added the apple tree and the snake. The jar is there because in the original story Pandora didn’t open a box, it was a jar. It was changed to a box when it was translated to Latin in the 16th century. I didn’t want her dressed in old Greek clothes, because I wanted her to be more modern.

I have to admit when I saw the thumbnail I thought the red box was some uniquely design ancient laptop that she discovered but nvm. Lol. In either case this is amazing not just the execution but the fact that you combined two different myths from two different cultures. Amazing, well worth a DD.

Have to say that this was really effective. Even before reading the name of the work, my initial thought was Pandora with her box. However, didn't pay attention for the tree as I tried to spot any terrors she was releasing. Good linking, though, although Pandora's story is far more... fair instead pointing fingers and guilt of old testament.

Well executed work and as I said, you had captured Pandora and her box so well that it was first thing I thought. Well done.

RaymondThornton In reply to Telepfenion [2012-09-21 16:59:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, glad you liked it. Yeah, both woman got a lot of blame in their stories, but at least Pandora didn't accused for ruining paradise.

Telepfenion In reply to RaymondThornton [2012-09-21 17:28:09 +0000 UTC]

Pandora released the hope as well, so it wasn't all that bad. Decide, you would need person truly lacking any curiosity to pull out duties they were set. Big red button, so to say...

Telepfenion In reply to RaymondThornton [2012-09-22 09:31:14 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Although both Tree of Knowledge and Pandora's Box (jar) were actually just set booby-traps, at least Greek mythology was fair enough to point this out for fair and clear.

The execution of this piece is phenomenal, the shading on the face is so realistic that it almost introduces an ugliness to the figure - but that really works for the piece as a whole. For your concept, I thought your story mashup was really interesting. When I first saw this image, I thought that the woman was opening up an ornate laptop- and that seemed like a really modern twist and an interesting fit with the stories you chose. But then I realized it was a box
Still a pretty ballin' piece. Kudos bro!
