Description alright . this really isn't a good full tutorial considering its only one page anyways .. Full View Please

Top Set: Clentched Fist
Create a sort of . bubble where you're gonna put your hand. Make sure it has a point where the middle finger is . otherwise you can confuse yourself (I do a lot)
Put in Circles where all the knuckles are going to be . as well as make a box-ish looking thing ... or circle ... where the thumb is gonna be.
Make more circles where the joins of your fingers are going to be (sometimes it might just be one set of circles you'll see)
Outline your hand dark where you want people to see . make sure to remember that at the joints of your fingers they're somewhat smaller than the rest of your finger (just like your knees if you view them from the side) as well as always remember that your fingers are round at a joint . not flat

Middle Set: Hand Spread Out
As before . put a circle where you're gonna have your hand.
Put more circles where the knuckles are (even if you don't see them) as well as the thumb.
Even more circles where all the joints are . as well as remember that your fingers have three parts (two joints and the knuckles) and your thumb has 2 ( two joints but one is somewhat hidden in your hand)
Outline your hand dark . as I said before remember that there is a 'webbing' between your fingers and thumb ... make sure to remember this . otherwise your hand will not look 'real'

Bottom Set: Hand Holding Something
Same as before . use a main circle that has a point . but now add in the object . a simple square or cylinder or whatever the object mainly is in geometric form (shapes . no details)
Now draw in your knuckles and your thumb square .
Draw in the other circles for the joints keeping in mind that they go around your object . sometimes looking at your own hand grasping something of that same simple shape works
Outline your hand and your item . but make sure that you remember what is in front of what so that way it doesn't look like your hand goes through your object or visa versa...

Just always remember that in between your fingers it has 'webbing' that connects . don't do a straight line to connect each finger together ... remember that each finger is a different hight as well from one another
This is mainly for my lovely student ~ KittenKagome sorry I'm so slow girly

Really nice tutorial. ^^ Hands are a big area where I struggle but I think this will help when I sutdy it. but I do have a question if I may ask. <= ) When the base of the hand is constructed and your getting reading to add the fingers in, which finger should you start with?

At any rate, still, really nice tutorial. ^_^

Raz-Xion In reply to RatchetJak [2009-12-20 14:09:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, usually I try to get the thumb and pointer done at the same time. Sometimes getting them gets the other 3 in place easier. (That and if you somehow forget a pinky you can just squeze it in there.)

Never said it was the best in the world, but I had some people ask for me to make it back when I did 4 years ago. It helped them out, I don't expect it to help too many people but glad when it does.

I'm thinking that this is a bit (ok, much) late for the comment, but I have to say this is probably one of the more better tutorials I've followed. For once, there's a simple way to make hands look not so fucked up.

Sorry if I did waste your time with this comment. I do apologize.

Glad it's helpful. I just wanted to try and show people how I do them to not look like random squids on people's arms

No waste I've just been busy.
