Description
Another map! This time of a specific kingdom instead of a region or continent. Sorry it took a little while. There are also some specific things to mention in terms of the map itself. Firstly, its a height map, with lighter colors representing higher up vertically. The yellow lines are roads, specifically larger stone roads. The red dots are cities, and the smaller white dots are villages. The red castles are actually castles, but castles that are the political capitals of certain duchies. I'll talk about the blue and purple castles later, but the purple and blue roads are just roads that lead up to those two respective castles. The darker purple line represents a bridge. Oh and finally: the light green represents plains, the dark green represents forests, the red mountains, and the orange lava. (cause some of these mountains are actually volcanos) K, I think that's everything, lets begin.
The kingdom of Moirall is a primarily elven kingdom situated in and around volcanic mountains, and straddling the coasts. It has the definitely not infamous prestige of being the first (and only) kingdom in the great demon king's empire. In history the elves had lost a war to the human kingdom in the south, that led to them losing much of their southern land right up to the four ash lakes. This was a massive blow to the elves' pride. Yet the worst was yet to come when the dark elves of the eastern woodlands united under a kingdom of their own, and began to make hostilities against Moirall and it's northern neighbors. (most of which were small city states and republics.) The queen of Moirall could see the writing on the wall at this point, and knew that they needed to take drastic action in order for their kingdom to survive. And so... swallowing her pride, dignity, and decency. She prepared the rites to summon a demon from hell. And thusly, the great demon king: Tefilus was summoned into the world. Along with his army of demons and monsters, Moirall had gained just enough manpower to fight off the human and dark elf kingdoms, and even managed to regain most of their historic territory from the human kingdom amidst the initial confusion and panic.
However that confusion and panic, has given way to resolve and bravery. The human kingdom's armies are also beginning to get used to fighting demons and monsters, which is not helping the situation. However the elves are no longer helpless, and are working on a plan to invade and overthrow the dark elf kingdom in the forest to the east. They already hold the westernmost portions of the forest. And have begun to "integrate" the dark elves there. But the forest will only get harder and harder to take the more they push into it. And progress needs to be made fast, while also holding off the human kingdom's advances at the same time. Needless to say it's an uphill battle. But with cunning strategies, sharp deceits, and maybe using the dark elf's arcane fountain for increased power. It will be possible to win the war against the human kingdom, and expand the empire.
As for the kingdom as it currently stands. The food stores are slowly being eaten away at by the extra large demon army. And unfortunately, taking over the eastern forest isn't going to help with that. The queen has made a decree that they will pay more for food than they normally would. And coastal cities are loving it. The extra fish for the army should hopefully keep hunger at bay for awhile, even if they are straining the ocean habitat for a bit. The farms are also deeply straining their own land to make quick profits. And along with the queen trying to integrate monsters into elven society, many elves are starting to fear the worst for their kingdom. To avoid this sort of mentality, the queen is doing everything she can in terms of propaganda. Including oppressing the dark elves, and going into battle herself. But she knows she needs to stabilize the situation somehow, as even just one revolt could spell the death of the whole kingdom. What the kingdom lacks in farmland however, it more than makes up for in mines. Moirall has always been famed for it's iron and silver mines. Along with the ports, it's one of the main reasons the human kingdom even wants that territory in the first place. There are also many salt mines, but since the war has consumed all possibility of trade, those have become somewhat useless as of late.
As for the great demon king himself. Tefilus is mostly focusing on winning the war against the humans. But lacks the tactic or cunning mind needed to win a war without brute strength, so it's basically a stalemate. He's also lazy as hell and has a general way of mind, that being a demon king is all about delegation and bossing people around. It also doesn't help that his main castle is literally designed to be far away from the rest of the kingdom. However the isolated castle Tefilus is also the sign of his strength. And that is his subordinates. Specifically demonic trickery and strength. As well as Elven ingenuity and design. And Castle Tefilus is the utmost proof of their accomplishments. A giant castle with high stone walls adorned in beautiful skull motifs on the inside. Filled to the brim with traps, both physical and magical in nature. Plenty of rooms for all of the monsters who defend it. Rooms designed specifically for battles to take place in, even certain kinds of battles using certain kinds of monsters. And all designed in the most elegant and extravagant way possible.
Even just decking out the demonic army in Moirallian armor alone significantly improves the situation on the border with the human kingdom. With access to the magical power of the arcane fountain, and a little bit of time. The elves will be able to accomplish anything in terms of military prowess. But of course that's assuming they can get their hands on the arcane fountain in the first place. However the demon king still mostly relies on brute force with his near endless army he summons forth from hell using the demonic portal. If that portal is ever closed for any reason, the kingdom will fall basically immediately.
Overall the kingdom of Moirall is in a very bad position, and even just a single band of experienced adventurers could topple the whole thing. But with the right kind of people in the right kind of places, and a little luck, this kingdom will be able to take on the world... and then... destroy it????
