I'm not sure, maybe from the owner, or a certified trainer. Give them a call. I had my 4-H shooting sports adviser sign off on it.

Nice Rifle, very beautiful! Is that a special grade Garand Rifle from the CMP? I have one too and it shoots like a dream! I have done a lot of M1 Garand shoots and I really want to practice a lot with it so that I can participate in the John C. Garand Shoot at Camp Perry. I'll have to post a picture of my M1, because I have the darker color wooden stock that your rifle has and I actually like the darker wooden stocks better then the lighter colored stocks. John C. Garand was a genius, his rifle is pretty much G.I. proof, easy to disable, and is tough to handle almost any environment that the G.I. faced in the European and Pacific theaters of WW2. By the way, where did you find your Enfield MK 4 rifle? I have been looking for one for a while now and it looks like a cool gun too.

My garand is a cmp service grade. I have done some small cmp shoots with it. It's fun to shoot. It's like a shoulder fired artillery piece.

And I dont have an enfield. Unless your getting my M39 confused for one, you must have brought up someone elses gallery.

Speaking of which, I actually prefer my Finnish M39 over my M1 for vintage shoots. Ammo is cheaper, and its a bit more accurate.

Oh, my apologies I thought that in the discussion board you mentioned that you owned a Lee-Enfield MK 4 rifle, but I didn't see in your gallery your M39 Mosin Nagant Rifle. That's a nice looking rifle as well, I've never actually fired on of those rifles before, but I've heard some great things about them. The Lee-Enfield's bolt throw that I've watched on youtube is so smooth and so quick that it makes any German Mauser look slow. The one rifle that I'm really looking for is the Springfield M1903 A3 or A4, but they're really hard to find now a days. I do have an old 1940s made Springfield Model 84C .22 cal bolt action rifle, which is like the M1903 and I used it a lot to practice my shooting for my M1 to improve my accuracy. I do agree that the M1 is like firing a shoulder fired artillery piece, when I first fired it I was surprise at not only for having a slight push in recoil, but the power behind that shot. When you fire that gun you have some authority in your shoulder and no one is going to mess with you!

Very nice! I love mine. Thought it was pretty accurate before. Went to Appleseed and came away with some proper rifle marksmanship training (but no patch, yet). Now? I think it's a damn tack driver...

I guess alot of people get garands from CMP, I saw there prices, it was amazing how low they were, in my area, if a garand is found in the gun store, its over a $1000, but there I saw some for $450.

oohhhhh. That's kinda sad. Wish I could let you fire a clip through mine. I take it Belgium has strict gun laws or M1's are not available? You can own an M1 here in the US for about 2 weeks pay, so their not too far out of most peoples grasp. I bought this rifle when I was 19.

I love the M1 rifle. I myself am saving for a CMP Garand rifle. Field Grade only though.

You should really go for a service for 595. The metal finish on most are 90% or better. For field grade Expect around 50% metal finish and 6/10 for the stock. Either way you will love it though

Though the ping alerted Germans in rooms across in house-to-house combat, it is still effective with the large .30(6) bullet. It has a luster to it, maybe it is the wood, but the gun is stunning to look at.

ShadowVergil In reply to Scott-the-hedgehog [2010-08-07 04:21:15 +0000 UTC]

Actually that is a rumor. The pinging noise was an excuse for poor leadership. If you were on the battlefield, and so many other guns were going off, you wouldn't be able to hear the ping because you and everyone else around you had ringing ears for hours. And they sent soldiers with M1 Carbines and Thompsons to do room to room and house to house combat.

Very nice rifle indeed, how ever, I much prefer my Enfield MK 4, 1943 dated rifle. I used to own an M1 garrand, very nice for an early Semi-automatic, but a few big flaws, namely the ejection at the end of the 8 shots, just telling an enemy you were out of ammo. Its not got the range of my enfield either. Check out my 3D m1 Garrand if you like. Oh, and my favourite rifle is the Kar98 kurz, getting an airsoft, looking forward to it so much!

I never got the "ping gives away your position" concept. Maybe in the streets of a city or Iraq I could see it happening, but during ww2 when you have a line of guys in their position, and the enemy 50-100 yrds away, I doubt they would hear it, let alone tell what shooter it came from. But in a way I agree, It would be nice if it loader with a stripperclip like he sks or mosin nagant.

Volcol In reply to rcbif [2009-06-06 01:30:20 +0000 UTC]

trust me - i have played in re-enactements, i can hear the ping 70m+ away

plasmids In reply to Volcol [2012-11-18 02:48:58 +0000 UTC]

It's true that the "ping" may have given away the fact that the American G.I. was out of ammo to the enemy when he was faced against a rifle platoon. But when you add the artillery and mortar strikes, the adrenaline rush, and the fear of dying, I think that the enemy was more concerned about surviving the war then one little ping sound from a Garand rifle. And besides, when you have a lot of Garand rifles firing all at once it's hard to tell which rifle is empty, when another rifle fires at you.
