Description This chart here shows the many patterns of the Astrological customs and how they align with their essential Classical Elements.

In the Philosophy of Quadralities, the concept imposes that there are four main essential substances of which are of either a Fire, Earth, Air, or Water Elemental. This philosophy has been applied to other philosophic and occult practices, such as the Worlds in Kabbalah, the Humors in Alchemy, and to the Elements in Astrology. That which is of a Fire Elemental is Ambitious, Intuitional and Willing, where that which is of an Earth Elemental is Practical, Sensational and Physical, as that which is of an Air Elemental is Intellectual, Mental and Thinking while that which is of a Water Elemental is Emotional, Spiritual, and Feeling.

In Astrology, there are many concepts such as Seasons, the Elements themselves, Qualities, Polarities, etc., all of which are in cycles and patterns that help define the traits of the Zodiac. There are Twelve Signs that are patterned into Four Quadrants as cycled through the yearly Seasons:

I: Aries = Spring
II: Taurus = Spring
III: Gemini = Spring
IV: Cancer = Summer
V: Leo = Summer
VI: Virgo = Summer
VII: Libra = Autumn
VIII: Scorpio = Autumn
IX: Sagittarius = Autumn
X: Capricorn = Winter
XI: Aquarius = Winter
XII: Pisces = Winter

That which is in Spring is of the Elemental of Air, as Spring is Wet and Hot as it is the Season where the Earth revives of life and becomes Active; that which is in the Summer is of the Elemental of Fire, as Summer is Hot and Dry as it is the Season where the Earth's temperature is increased; that which is in Autumn is of the Elemental of Earth, as Autumn is Dry and Cold as it is the Season where the Earth dies of life and becomes Passive; and that which is in Winter is the of the Elemental of Water, as Winter is Cold and Wet as it is the Season where the Earth's temperature is decreased.

In the philosophy of the Tarot and in the religion of Wicca, the Elements of the Seasons are attributed according to the Initiating Sign of the Season:

Spring: Aries, Taurus, Gemini = Fire
Summer: Cancer, Leo, Virgo = Water
Autumn: Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius = Air
Winter: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces = Earth

Spring is Intuitional and Willing as the Wand that Forces in leading Emanation, while Summer is Spiritual and Feeling as the Cup that Patterns in supporting Creation, where Autumn is Mental and Thinking as the Sword that Activates in following Formation and Winter is Vital and Sensing as the Coin that Forms in resulting Materialization.

Each Zodiac Sign is attributed one of the Three Quality Modes of either Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable. In the Kabbalic Hebrew concept of the Three Mothers, each figure is empowered with one of the Three main Elementals:

Cardinal: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn = Fire
Fixed: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius = Air
Mutable: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces = Water

The Cardinal Quality is Initiative, Active and Personal as the Creatively Adolescent Soul, the Fixed Quality is Consistent, Stable and Social as the Physically Mature Body, and the Mutable Quality is Flexible, Passive and Universal as the Intellectually Elder Spirit.

Most importantly of all, every Zodiac is attributed with the Four Classical Elements themselves which are said to be the essential behavior of the Signs. Each Sign is correlated in a cycling Elemental pattern that Trines them in good compatibility:

Fire = Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth = Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air = Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water = Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

That which is of Fire is Ambitious, Egotistic and Philosophic as the Masculine King Father, where that which is of Earth is Practical, Material and Serviceable as the Feminine Page Daughter, while that which is of Air is Intellectual, Rebellious and Communicative as the Masculine Knight Son, as that which is of Water is Emotional, Sexual and Illusionary as the Feminine Queen Mother.

Both are, actually, but anything related to sexual intimacy is more comfortably aboded in emotion, which is Water. The Scorpio is indeed a Water Sign, but it's also a Mars Sign, which is Fire. Where Water is emotion and Mars is drive, that sense of passion becomes more profoundly romantic and deep like Scorpio (Fire conducting Water) instead of simple lascivious ambition like Aries (Fire conducting Fire). This is why its common for those two Signs to struggle with relationships. Aries wants a passionate relationship, but can quickly loose interest before things get too serious, meanwhile Scorpio is dedicated and loyal, but but are very self-protective and hard to trust most suitors.

Oh okay. I guess Water is the most sexual element then. Hot! Anyway, i personally have a passionate affinity with Lightning. It is my most favorite element, ever. Also, the best thing that happened to me is that i did this test last year www.playbuzz.com/fourelementsp…
and i got Lightning! That was one of my best moments in my entire life!<3 ^_^

I got Ice, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I'm probably Lava at best given my individualistic instinctive nature (Sun Leo) and my great need for personal possessions and pattern (Moon Taurus).

What Signs are you?

Sun Libra and Moon Pisces

Also, where you glad about that you got Ice even if you say that you consider Lava to be your element. Well, I got Lightning and that's all that matters to me. Sometimes in other good element tests i get either Fire or Air. Sometimes i get even Earth and/or Water but that's because the tests i do are not very good. I got my mother to do the that test i sent you and she got Lava which actually made sense considering how firm, stable, reliable, assertive, energetic and passionate she is.

I find it interesting to say the least, because Ice sounds like someone whose more mysterious, mystical yet realistic, cold and cautious, yet gentle and emphatic. If you look at my Elemental Alchemy Zodiac, I give Lava to Aries and Ice to Scorpio, again, the two Mars Signs.

I don't see myself as someone all that icey, to be honest. I'm definitely something more bright and energetic. I had always assumed I was more electric than any other elemental.

I'd like to know what "the Bound Fish" means, there must be some meaning! ^^
And and, what happens with the Ochiaplelus (however it's named), anyways, the 'new' sign. It's all very confusing & I love it!! 8 D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCDeschene In reply to true2love [2012-02-03 20:03:19 +0000 UTC]

And there is such meaning. The concept of the Pisces being bound is a symbol to how they are lofty spirits traversing in opposition within the same vessel. To them physical body is but a shackle for they see and feel the world far beyond its material illusion. This is why Pisces, like this age is very spiritually subconscious yet flow blindly in the deluded oceans of sorrows and self-undoing, all in tiny the bowl of religious sanctuary.

As for Ophiuchus, yes, that is the supposed 13th Zodiac. Ophiuchus is basically the constellation that rips off Scorpio’s alchemical attributes and yearly period. However, as you can see, it is not accepted in the conventional tradition of the astrological philosophy. This is because Tropical Astrology argues that while the practice itself is supposed to be the study of the stars, its actual significance is how it works here on earth. Astronomically, the Zodiacal Belt’s cycle throughout the year is rather disproportional as well as there are a great number of planets in our galaxy for any astrologer to fully incorporate into the system. So instead, Tropical Astrologers organize the concept that fits within our 358 day span by the twelve months and four seasons. Though, there are those who do prefer the actual astronomical approach, disproportional periods, thirteen Signs and all. This perspective is called Sidereal Astrology.

true2love In reply to RCDeschene [2012-02-08 01:55:11 +0000 UTC]

Then what about the 'modern' symbol of the Pisces? The one where the two fish swim in a circle. From what I understood, it represents cycle.

And and, for the rulling planet of the Pisces, it's said to be Neptune (<3) and/or Jupiter. Is it because Neptune is too far away to have an actual effect on the Pisces? = .

And for the Ophiuchus, I thought that it only applied to people who where born after the Ophiuchus sign was 'discovered' or something, but it makes sense now, thank you! = )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCDeschene In reply to true2love [2012-02-10 22:51:36 +0000 UTC]

New symbol? Since when? Pisces has always been the two crescents bound by the line. What you said sounds more like the symbol for Cancer than any thing else.

You are completely correct on that one.

And no, that's just like saying that people aren't only born of a certain national heritage until they find out about their family linage. XD Either way, Ophiuchus isn't valid in terms of this level of Astrology.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

true2love In reply to RCDeschene [2012-03-02 01:39:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, what about the Scorpions? Their rulling planet is Pluto... so what happens to them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCDeschene In reply to true2love [2012-03-05 10:20:25 +0000 UTC]

If you're referring to the fact that Pluto is no longer considered a planet by the most recent astronomical redefinition of planetary mass, then once again that has no effect as far as astrological concern. Astrologers supposedly still perceive significant influences of sexual power, hidden knowledge and transformational rebirth, all of which are major attributes of Scorpio, in Pluto's Zodiacal transits. However, these views are mostly out of commercial convenience for modern astrologers. Ultimately, it comes down to which astrological opinion you prefer to go by. I consider myself a true traditionalist where I only choose to recognize the original Seven like the Vedic astrologers and therefore consider Mars to remain Scorpio's ruler alongside Aries as the Fire & Water Warriors.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

The original seven? = o

RCDeschene In reply to true2love [2012-03-06 05:34:27 +0000 UTC]

The Seven Naked-Eye Planets of the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. In Traditional Astrology these Celestial Spheres have co-rulership over two of opposing Elements in the Twelve Signs (with the exception of the Sun & Moon). This is because the correspondence of these rulerships go in the pattern of a mirror as you can see in this image:

Traditional Domicile Mirror

Basically what you see here is a symbolic expression of the following alignment:

Sun & Moon: Leo & Cancer (Fire & Water)
Mercury: Gemini & Virgo (Air & Earth)
Venus: Libra & Taurus (Air & Earth)
Mars: Aries & Scorpio (Fire & Water)
Jupiter: Sagittarius & Pisces (Fire & Water)
Saturn: Capricorn & Aquarius (Earth & Air)

As I said previously, this is the idea that Vedic Astrology and those choose to preserve the traditional Hermetic upholds. However, as we discovered more planetary and celestial figures, astrologers began incorporating them into Horoscopic significance and began reassigning Signs to them. Today the Planetary concept stands as:

Sun: Leo
Moon: Cancer
Mercury: Gemini & Virgo
Venus: Libra & Taurus
Mars: Aries
Jupiter: Sagittarius
Saturn: Capricorn
Uranus: Aquarius
Neptune: Pisces
Pluto: Scorpio

Interestingly enough, there is light debate on whether or not that Astrology should integrate Ceres into the line of Ruling Planets due to it's reclassification as a "normal" Planet. There is suggestion that Ceres should be seen as Virgo's Ruler in connection to the Greek myth of the Goddess Ceres and her daughter, Persephone (whom which the constellation of Virgo originates from).

Can I ask you another question?

How do you explain (or at least try to) how our rulling planets and astrological signs influence our luck or love life. I mean, how does the person who writes the daily horoscopes in the newspaper proceide?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RCDeschene In reply to true2love [2012-05-27 11:10:16 +0000 UTC]

I ask the same damn question... >_>

Seriously, commercial horoscopes are nothing more than a broad generalization of the Sun Signs, nothing more nothing less. If the Sun is crossed or in some form of significant transit relationship at the time, it may find it's way in the horoscope. However, if it's Luck or Love you're asking about, you want to look at Venus and Jupiter Signs more than you're daily Sun horoscope...

Because I was telling myself, "oh, I know, I'll only buy lottery tickets when the horoscope tells me to", of course I've never won anything and it certainly doesn't come as a surprise.
Then how do you watch Venus and Jupiter and the other planets? = ) I do have a telescope, but I'm not very good at it and most of the time I can hardly see a thing.. = /
