Description
A quick WIP screenshot of a Google Earth pet project. I am adding landmarks from the Rifts RPG setting. This is from about altitude 4000 km up. I will be uploading more as more details are added. Thanks again to Dawn2069ms. He graciously allowed me to use part of his awesome Palladium Fantasy map as a skin for the lost continent of Atlantis.

Nicely done! I had some luck adding my Atlantis map as a Google Earth layer, but it looks like you've used real-world imagery to create this. Interesting approach!

Thank you for the kind words, but the credit for the that specific image rests with Dawn2069ms. I merely utilized a layer of his very nice Palladium Fantasy/Rifts crossover map. dawn2069ms.deviantart.com/art/…

Great minds think alike! I put my own Atlantis map on Google Earth last year (see here for a screenshot ), and I've been tinkering around with making a global Rifts Earth overlay for Google Earth.

I have been compiling info from the books and areas I most use for quite a while and importing them into my Google Earth as well. I have a pretty comprehensive North America and Europe done and a smattering of other areas. I have also added a bunch of major ley lines that have figured into my games in the past.

Nice! It's a tricky thing, getting canon maps to fit onto an equirectangular map for a Google Earth overlay. I'd like to find a good projection of Google Earth to work with as a baseline for a world vector map; I've come close, but most downloadable projections diverge in the extreme north and south.

I know exactly what you mean. I have always had a love of maps and mapping since geography courses as a kid right up into my time as a navigator in the Navy. I had begun to draw a rudimentary Rifts map for a old 3D program when I stumbled into the layering possibilities of a Google earth map. I have never really moved away from it since then. The only drawback is having to live with the real world coast line, but I do not use the canon explanation of the East Coast being washed away. I live there and hate the idea personally.

Well, if you stumble across a Google Earth overlay that happens to fit the actual coastlines of Google Earth, please do let me know.

I hit a snag and never really got back to it. I had all my books pdf files and the Google Earth files saved on the same laptop..... which died. I am trying to retrieve the info to get started again. I will happy you share it with you when I am done.
