Description
Yes, this is a pixel image, and since DA usually shows images shrunken down first, remember to click on the image to show it in full size, otherwise your eyes are gonna bleed. You know, I like to try out different methods. And I haven't done a pixel image in a long time, so I wanted to do one again. And a little different this time, including a whole landscape, which I rarely do. I don't like winter much because of the temperature and the wet and slippery environment, since I love to travel by bicycle and winter makes it none enjoyable. However, I do enjoy the landscape when it has snowed heavily. This pretty much inspired me to create this here.
And god damned it, it has taken a lot of more work than I was planning. Shading the snow rather realistically was a pain in the ass, but however, I am always happy when an image turns out as expected. I like the final result, and most of you will do too, I am sure of that =3

The muzzle is off to a degree. The female anatomy might be slightly off, but otherwise it looks pretty good. I love the snow in the background, very great. The red dress is quite beautiful on her. I love her very much. I love her tail very much. I love female fox furry. I think you did a very great job. She's so beautiful.

Oh wow, didn't even know that was pixel art until I saw that in the desc, and looked closer. Nice work!

Yeah, it's not usual kind of pixel art, and depending on how your computer or the website shows the image, the pixels melt together so that you couldn't see the pixelated look. I could have made it look more minimalistic, but I wanted to try this out and it worked perfectly =3

Well it certainly was a tougher job than I thought and had intended to. But well, I rarely do landscapes, and also complex pixel stuff. Both together were painful to do XD But hell, another element to keep my gallery unique ^^

Where to start... uhm... let's see...
The landscape feels very much alive, like I could reach my hands into the screen and make a snowball. The attention to detail on the clouds, the snow, and the objects in the image is superb, better than most of your other work. As for the lady, loving the haircut. Sure, you have done it before, quite a bit actually, but the way the breeze hits it lightly swoops it up enough to give it volume, but not enough to make her look like she's next to a wind tunnel. Her ensemble is simple and appealing, All one color and balanced between function and fashion. Her tail is very fluffy (I wanna bury my face in it! X3 ) Her legs are like that of a goddesses, perfectly shaped! And to top off my amazement, this is pixel art! I can't even fathom what software you used to do this!

You were asking me several times, what software I used for certain images, and it's always the same - an 11 years old Photoshop Elements version 2.0 which has always been my tool for everything since I even joined the world of graphics. And nothing else, no other program was needed.
Yes, the work has paid off in the landscape. It turned out bettern than I would have even expected, and the limited coloring really added to it. You know, before turning everything into limited colors, all the shading and what not is just made of regular smooth shades, and strangely, in that originally created version, it doesn't even look half as good. The different methods, that Photoshop offers me for rendering the pixel content really helped to optimize the final look. Strangely, in the smooth version the snow looks pretty much artificial, like..... well, drawn. After converting it to a 4 colors noise pixelation, it looked damned nice. Also for keeping it as realistic as possible, I put some natural non-even plains into the landscape and tried to to create the shadows properly, concerning that. THAT was the biggest pain while working on this image XD I like it much since the whole landscape was completely created off scratch and by hand, but I admit, the sky is a photo. I am slowly improving on landscapes, but not really skies. Though it fits the image well after using the same techniques to turn it into pixel content.
Well, the fox lady, we are repeating this topic in almost every image, but that's basically what it is about, whenever I upload something. So I am not getting tired XD You pretty much pointed out everything about her perfectly, seeing it as what I intended to do. I am >>SO<< glad I got her face right with that low resolution, normally I am messing everything up there when only having a few pixels. Had a good mojo there I guess XD Her tail once again came out totally awesome. Not only am I a fox nerd, but inside the matter, a tail nerd. So every time this is very important, sometimes I have messed up the tail and that can destroy the whole image. And my nerdiness really it's reason for existence, since people keep mentioning the tail when commenting.
Personally, I am not sure if her legs came out right, but I am glad you like them as they are =3 The leg's pose is a bit difficult to do, especially since I can't remember ever having done this. The appearance of the legs are one of the strongest weapons a lady has, at least concerning me XD A female look combined with a female walk are some of the very rare things that let me melt like wax X3 On that matter, I have no sympathies for tomboys.
I wonder if you have mentioned before, that you are into pixel artwork. I knew you like snow, but I didn't realize you would go mad for the pixel style XD Oh well, now you have everything in one file ^^
(God damn it, I know this reply is long, but you know, that's my habit. Also, it is very very VERY rare that I get comments which deserve detailed replies.)

That is a long reply, but don't worry, I enjoyed reading it. ^^
I keep asking you about the art program? Hm, I'll have to start re-reading for this. I'm guessing I ask because I've jumped around quite a bit. I started with Paint, mostly because I didn't want to pay anything and it was suitable for the amount of skill I had (big whopping zero.) Then I moved to Gimp, by recommendation of my brother. I personally HATED the interface in Gimp. I then found paint.net (PDN.) It was free, simple and easy to work. That's what I use now.
The landscape looked... artificial? That's really weird. I never would have guessed the sky was a photo, It looks just like the rest of the image. The pixelation filter must do some serious wonders! The one in PDN doesn't let you restrict color use, so it's only good for blurring something out.
The face did come out amazing, considering it's technically on a solid grid. Tails are awesome, can't have a foxy lady without a long, fluffy tail. I almost cringe when I see people draw their images with the tail about as thick as the leg and goes down to their knees. Well-said with the feminine look and walk, that is something I don't see often. All the girls at school seem to either walk like men, or worse, they walk like apes. Ugh...
I actually do like pixels. I think that my taste for pixel artwork comes from my taste in video games. Look at my game shelf and you will see more games for 20th century systems than 21st century systems.

Yes, Gimp was also recommended several times to me, but no need to use such a thing when using Photoshop. It really is the case, that you don't need anything else when knowing Photoshop. My theoretical advantage is, that I would not need any other software ever for doing my artwork. The disadvantage is, that at some point in the future, that old software won't work on modern operating systems anymore, what will force me to switch. But I should not care about that yet.
Photoshop doesn't really have a pixelation filter, but several options to what image format it is supposed to be saved as. One is GIF for sure, which basically has limited colors. So I copied every single color layer of the image into an own file, saved it as GIF while setting the exact number of colors and the way of how to render the pixels. Converting this then back and putting it into the actual image again, and with the selection tools of photoshop I could vary all the pixels of one selected color, which enables you to perfectly adjust the colors. When knowing about the right tricks to do in Photoshop, work on pixel images is unlimited =3
I guess we have already agreed on that point, but I like to repeat such things - yes I really find it extremely poor as well, when people draw lovely ladies and then having a rather poor tail. I mean, people are not supposed to be so nerdy about this as I am, but when the tail is shorter than the upper leg, that looks so awkward, don't many people realize or mind? However, one image flashed me really badly, when somebody drew a half naked lady posing on a bed, showing her back, and there was a somewhat curled tail which was possibly about 8 inches long! He mentioned in the desc, that the tail came out a little short, but that didn't fit at all. But I kept my mouth shut, not spreading that nerdiness everywhere XD
The girls around your schools are so..... manly? >_> Well, I wouldn't ever tell anybody how they have to appear, but I'd prefer to have masculine guys and feminine girls around me. And I actually hate any kind of monkeys, also because of their appearance, and I feel ashamed that they are not far away from humans. Really awkward when I get any kind of such an impression of the people around me.
So you are retro gamer? I am too, and it's a big shame, that the era of high quality 2D games is completely over. The SNES was a blessing. And the N64 too.

Hahaha, it wouldn't even be so hard to find ladies there, which are as sweet, just not so awesomely clothed in that temperatures XD But I bet fox ladies wouldn't be too fancy of their fur in summer XD ................ Oh, just next image idea, I gotta go for that, just not in pixel form XD

An amazing image, and great to see you play with a different style of art! Love the pixel style, now jus gotta reduce it to look goo on a GameBoy

You are exactly right, a lady sitting there in such a decent dress in winter makes no sense, if it wasn't a furry fox lady =3 As I replied to another comment, I don't think it would be too nice anymore in summer XD Maybe I am gonna visualize that idea right as next one, because it sounds nice and as a little something for "summoning" summer, I am sick of that weather here XD
Dude, there is no way to make this image look any good on a Game Boy XD I don't know if you know it's screen resolution, but you would just get her face all at once on the screen, and I couldn't tell how it would look in 4 grey tones XD Though another inspiration for my next pixel image, creating it with nothing but the 4 greenish grey tones from the Game Boy screen =3 But don't ask me to stay within the screen resolution XD That doesn't offer much more artistic content than an FA-avatar XD

Oooh would be interesting to see a summer version of this pic, jus see how things change. Maybe go and do all seasons? Be allot of work tho!
And yea maybe an original GameBoy would look off, could maybe do a GameBoy Advance? And the 4 greenish grey tone image sounds like an amazing thing to try!

Red-Indicator In reply to PhilFox [2013-02-22 23:43:19 +0000 UTC]
No, I am pretty sure I am not gonna do several versions of this image XD Though I am slowly getting a little more motivated to do backgrounds. But I will do a summer related picture in no time.
I'd think the GameBoy Advance already offers too much of colors and stuff for using that specs for a nice image with limited colors. It can display more than 256 colors at once, and that amount already is much. But trying to show something sweet with the 4 grey tones of the original Game Boy could be an entertaining task as well as looking very interesting in the final result. It's fun to work with pixels. Why don't you give it a try? :b
