Description

We return, now, to the 31st Century, to the space colony of New Chronos in Saturn’s orbit. The United Planets may have made New Chronos a bastion of peace and advancement, but there is still a shadow cast by its light: the seedy underbelly called the Neo Gotham District. It’s the most dangerous and impoverished district of New Chronos, where the officers of the Sci-Police rarely dare to tread, and is the seat of New Chronos headquarters of The Baroque Garden Policorp, one of the wealthiest and most powerful corporations in the galaxy, which originally was founded on the space colony of Saraswati within the Bak Mei 23 system. Several weeks ago, four students from Saraswati’s educlave system received a communique from an unknown figure. See, they’ve been investigating Baroque’s corruption, and the Policorp had recently relocated the evidence of such to a secure server at the New Chronos headquarters. The shadowed figure gave them the means to relocate to New Chronos, and asked for their help in exchange for helping them recover the information they need from Baroque. The students’ end of the deal is to help their new ally investigate The Legion of Superheroes, a team of metapowerful heroes who defend New Chronos. The figure is not entirely sure the Legion can be trusted. When the four students, Alex, Jama, Hikari, and Gabrielle, first arrived on New Chronos, they were given an address that led them to an abandoned building in the Neo Gotham District. At the building, they were attacked by several robotic drones, which they managed to dispactch with their own powers: Alex is a super-tough martial artist, Jama is a sorceress, Hikari has flight, super strength, and energy blasts, and Gabrielle is a cyborg with various weapons built into her body. The drones retreated and the figure revealed himself, telling them that was just a test of their abilities. This person is Terry McGinnis, and he lead them to his personal bunker beneath the building. He and his girlfriend Maxine explain that they’re recreating the legend of the terrifying crime fighter known as The Batman, the superhero identity of Terry’s Earthian ancestor Bruce Wayne, and use it to fight crime across New Chronos, primarily in Neo Gotham. And they also need to keep tabs on The Legion, seeing whether of not they are trust worthy. If the four join forces with Terry, he and Maxine will help them bring the Baroque Garden Policorp to justice for their corruption…
Before the incident involving The Eradicator, a weaponized nanotech hivemind, Terry was spying on The Legion of Superheroes, reporting back to Maxine and Jama with his findings. The six-person team, in the end, decided to be extremely wary of them and they calculated a plan to test how dangerous they could potentially be, should they ever decided to stray from the righteous path… Some time after the Eradicator incident, the Legion of Super Heroes received a distress signal from the Takron-Galtos Penitentiary Colony. The Fatal Five, a powerful team of mercenaries and consistent enemies of the Legion, were making a gigantic jailbreak and the security forces there need the Legion’s help. Five, the newly-appointed leader of the Legion, along with Lightning Lad, Triplicate Girl, Bouncing Boy, and Ferro Lad, traveled to Takron-Galtos to put an end to it. When they arrived at the prison, however, there was no riot and all of the prisoners and guards, including the Fatal Five, were in some form of temporal stasis. The Legionnaires were then ambushed by a team calling themselves The Titans, lead by a shadow-cloaked man, the same shadow that was spying on them a week ago, calling himself The Batman. As Five, an armed and highly-intelligent cyborg, went head to head with Batman, the other Legionnaires battled the Titans. Triplicate Girl, a martial artist who can split into three bodies, still could not take on Captain Action’s combat skills, despite outnumbering him. Bouncing Boy, who can change into a large, hyperfast sphere of kinetic energy, was still bested by Witchfire and her magicks. Lighning Lad and Deadline were an even match, but Ferro Lad was defeated by Cyborgirl. In the end, the Titans retreated, despite having the upper hand, and Witchfire undid her spell that froze the prisoners and security officers in place. The damage done to the prison led to a small jailbreak, but the Legion cleared that up. As for Batman and his team, the four young metahumans agreed to stay teamed up with Terry, while Terry agreed to hand over some information on the Baroque Garden Policorp. Apparently, their xenotech department is receiving, soon, an intact piece of weapon tech from the Imperiax War

Notes:

* The 31st Century Titans and a lot of elements of this story come from the Elseworld story “Titans: Scissors Paper Stone”.

* The Titans are merged with other characters’ designs and took on their names.

** Captain Action is originally Captain Thug.

*** Alex Swanwick is mildly-cybernetic, with combat skills illegally programmed into his brain.

** Witchfire is originally Witchy-Poo.

*** Jamadagni “Jama” Renuka is a Homo magi sorceress from the planet Zerox, trained by the most powerful magic-user there, the Magus Pallidus (based on the White Witch). Jama’s magic is centered around manifestations of rituals, and she tends to stretch that definition of ritual to include simple games, which work as magic with great success.

**** Jama’s attack and defense comes from the game “Scissors, Paper, Stone” (hence the title of the original story).

**** Her temporal stasis spell is based on “Red Light, Green Light”.

** Deadline is originally Dead Pretty Boy.

*** Hikari Mono was infused with an ethereal alien, which gave him powers of superhuman physicality, energy blasts, and flight. He’s covered in scars as a result.

** And Cyborgirl is originally Prosthetic Lass.

*** Gabrielle Marin-Reyes lost a lot of her flesh and body parts in a fire storm, and her scientist mothers rebuilt her. It was Jama and Alex who helped her equip weapons and tools into her cybernetic body parts.

** Ferro Lad accidentally caused an explosion that destroyed some of Cyborgirl’s synthetic skin and muscle, so that’s why you partially see the prosthetics of her skull, arm, and foot in the pic.

* Luronu Durgo, aka Triplicate Girl, was born with the ability to split into three bodies, replete with their clothes and Legion Flight Ring for each body. It takes great strain to create four or more bodies…

* The ability of Bouncing Boy, real name: Charles Taine, was due to him being exposed to a mutagen.

** Changing it from “inflating into a ball” to “transforming into an energy sphere” made sense to me.

* Ferro Lad, real name: Andrew Nolan, was also born with powers, namely the ability to transform into an organic metal. His metallic form makes him strong and invulnerable.

* Baroque Garden’s xenotech division is studying an Imperiax Soldier, and the project is being lead by Dr. Walter Shreeve

Nice entry. The use of the name and symbol of 'Captain Action' is an interesting Easter egg, considering the original toy's gimmick.

(Looks up Captain Action on Wikipedia)

Oh. I didn't think that far.

I guess Alex can use datachips that give him any skill, and they can be shaped like coins...
