Description

After the heroes of Earth decided to end their civil war peacefully, they returned to the Justice League’s satellite headquarters, The Watchtower, to reactivate it. The heroes, consisting of the League, along with solo heroes and The Doom Patrol, convened to find their allies, The Titans, and then find The Cult of Algol and a way to cure the global pandemic. They put the pieces together and determined that Algol created the plague, and that they kidnapped The Titans. Before this, The Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, was at the main computer system, in remote communication with his hacker allies Oracle, aka Bruce’s fiance Barbara Gordon, and The Outsider, aka Bruce’s best friend Alfred Pennyworth. Batman told his fellow heroes at the Watchtower that he needed to follow up on another case, and that it shouldn’t take too long. Oracle and Outsider confirmed they accessed “the base’s back door program” and began streaming video and audio feed from said base’s security system…

In Switzerland, a heavy-duty snowmobile trekked across the blizzarding plains to the base of the Alps. When the snowmobile finally ran out of gasoline, the three passengers, bundled in snow-resistant clothing, continued on foot until they reached the base of the first mountain they reached. When they reached the exact coordinates they were given, the three were greeted with a titanic hangar door de-cloaking and opening to them. Several armed and armored men collected the three trekkers and brought them into their base. Slade Wilson, the mercenary called Deathstroke, along with Lana Lang and her teenaged daughter Sue, both of whom he was charged with protecting, had finally reached their destination.

The armed guards led them to an elevator leading from the hangar, filled with combat vehicles, to the top floor of the base, which is carved directly into this Swiss mountain. In the office of the director of this facility, Slade, Sue, and Lana met Slade’s anonymous employer, a woman known only by her codename: Queen Bee. As the director of this facility, Queen Bee welcomed them to The Hive, an organization of former CADMUS agents and officials. Queen Bee congratulated Slade for his tremendous work in bringing Sue Lang to them and offered him a permanent position with The Hive. Uninterested in Queen Bee’s sales pitch, Slade asked for his $3 Billion payment so he could be on his way. Queen Bee tapped on her computer and announced that the deposit is already in his bank account. Slade left Sue and her mother with Queen Bee and made the slow elevator ride back to the base floor.

Queen Bee led the Langs to a laboratory at the top of the mountain, and explained the origin of Sue’s various metahuman abilities to her. Sue was the last of 50 test-tube infants created by the now-defunct CADMUS. There are 49 other metahumans created by them, all of them various ages, races, and genders. Sue was the first of them they could find. Lana admitted that she is not Sue’s biological mother, but she was adopted from an orphanage; Queen Bee said Sue was brought there as an infant, rescued from CADMUS. Sue, overwhelmed, demanded to know why she was brought to The Hive. Queen Bee explained that they created a worldwide-casting genetic resonance device that they need the fullness of Sue’s psychic ability to use. The purpose of it is to eliminate the global pandemic in one powerful strike.

Batman and his allies saw this and learned about Sue and the 49 other metahumans. They also figured that such an expenditure of Sue’s metahuman ability could kill her and thousands of other people if things go awry. Unable to take that risk, Batman, under the alias “Matchstick”, got in contacted with Deathstroke just as he reached the hangar doors. Contacting Slade on his smartphone, Matchstick offered Deathstroke $9 Billion, three times what The Hive just paid him, to save Sue and Lana from The Hive, and to not kill anyone there. Slade thought about it… then he attacked the guards who were escorting him out before saying he accepts the deal. The armed Hive guards, realizing what’s happening, swarmed the hangar and attacked Deathstroke, who stomped their threat out in droves. Queen Bee realized what was happening and had her personal bodyguard, Red Bee, go down to fight and kill Deathstroke. The guards bombed the elevator to the uppermost laboratory, where Sue is, so Deathstroke can’t use it, but he used his grappling hook to zoom through the elevator vent. But, in the middle of this, Red Bee flew in, tackled the mercenary, and slammed him into the nearest office complex. She then unleashed a swarm of killer robot bees on him.

“Bees… my god.”

Fighting through the swarm, Deathstroke reached a sanitation closet and found a spray can of insecticide. He pulled a live electrical cord out of the wall and used it to ignite the spray, destroying the swarm in flames. With the robot bees destroyed, Deathstroke easily defeated Red Bee. When he got to the upper-most laboratory, Slade found Sue, unconscious, being hooked up to the device while her mother was restrained by remaining guards. Deathstroke took his pistols and fired at the device, disabling it. Queen Bee screamed at Deathstroke to know why he did this. He simply said he got a better offer to save Sue from The Hive. The guards dropped Lana and attacked Slade, only to be dropped by him. Queen Bee tried to kill Deathstroke herself, but she lost and was knocked out. In the end, Slade resuscitated Sue and all three of them began leaving The Hive, with the assassin anticipating the coming of his latest paycheck.

The tracking beacon that The Wildcats hid on Slade was knocked off during the fight, so by the time they arrived to confront him, Sue, and The Hive, Slade and the Lang family were long gone…

Meanwhile, in space, two fleets of alien battle ships begin approaching the Milky Way Galaxy, with their final destination being Earth. Both The Reach fleet, led by The Negotiator, and The Kherubim fleet, led by Sybastion and his flagship The Red Blade, know of the plague currently ravaging Earth and seek to conquer it for themselves, taking advantage of the pandemic as a means to weaken earth’s defenses…

Congratulations for adding Red Bee, one of most obscure bee-themed characters in DCU, to your Absolute DC project.
