Description

One rainy night in Pittsburgh, PA, we meet Harleen Fitzpatrick, Pamela Isley, and Selina Kyle, all having a girl’s night out at a bar. Harleen was feeling kind of down because, on her latest job robbing a bank in broad daylight, she saw a mother protecting her baby from Harleen and our criminal protagonist was touched by this… just long enough for the police to arrive and scared her off with only half of the monetary reward she was expecting from this mission. Still, Harleen was able to get enough to pay the rent on their apartment and a decent bit of pocket change. While Selina was in the restroom, Harleen confided in Pamela, her closest friend, that she wants to be a mother. Pamela tried to talk her down, explaining that their lives are too dangerous to bring a child into it, but a commotion from the restroom broke up the girl talk. Selina got into a fight with another woman in the bathroom, who accused Selina of being a prostitute her husband cheated on her with (which she is and did). Harleen and Pamela got Selina out of there and they drove off from the bar back to their ramshackle apartment building.

But, when they got there, there was a picnic basket with a bundled up blanket in it. Harleen saw this and undid the blanket, finding a baby girl inside! Inside the blanket was also a note, giving the women the baby’s name, Mary, and a message asking whoever finds Mary to protect her. Harleen and the other girls brought baby Mary to their apartment, secretly, so the landlord doesn’t jump down their throats again, and Pamela took the blanket that she was wrapped in. Using her metahuman abilities, Pamela learned of the mother’s biometric signature imprinted on the blanket and started tracking it. Harleen wants to raise Mary, but eventually agreed with Pamela and Selina that she needs to be taken to a proper orphanage if they can’t find Mary’s real mother. While Pamela tracked the mother’s biometrics across the city, Harleen and Selina took care of Mary. By the time sunrise came, Pamela reached another apartment across town, she followed the biometric trail to a room… where she found a dead woman, carrying the mother’s biometric signature! She was seemingly eviscerated by a huge blade, and Pamela called Harleen to let her know. Before Harleen could pick up the phone, though, their landlord, Silas Borgman, barged into their apartment and demanded they give up the orphan baby they found, having found out from another tenant. Harleen tried to plead when another person barged into the apartment!

A mutilated titan of a man, who we later learn is called Amygdala, brandished a running chainsaw at Harleen, who is holding Mary in her arms, and roared to give him the baby! Selina and Borgman, the latter of whom is secretly a cyborg with strength and hidden weapons, attacked Amygdala while Harleen climbed down the fire escape with Mary. The monster-man knocked out both of his opponents and crashed through the window, giving chase to Harleen and Mary through the streets! She managed to lose Amygdala when Pamela, using her plant-manipulation powers, uprooted the streets with thorny vines to attack him! Later, at another location, Selina managed to reunite with Pamela, Harleen, and baby Mary. Pamela told Harleen that Mary’s mother is dead, possibly killed by Amygdala, and that Mary possible won’t truly be safe without our trio until that monster is dead! Why Amygdala wants Mary is unknown, but they don’t care why. Protecting Mary is all that matters to them. Then, Amygdala found them, followed by a small team of shorter, but equally mutilated-looking psychotics. Unable to feel pain, these monsters overpowered the girls and stole Mary from Harleen’s arms! They escaped, but Pamela managed to get a sample of Amygdala’s blood. Able to track Amygdala the same way Pamela was able to track Mary’s mother, the women changed into their super-criminal identities of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman, and got to work.

They trio tracked the monsters in the dead of night, finding them entering an abandoned subway tunnel. The girls ambushed the monsters while Harley went for Mary, who was being held by Amygdala himself. Amygdala ran down the tunnel while the painless monster men kept the girls busy. In the end, the three found the lair of Amygdala and his master/creator, the mad doctor known as Professor Pyg. Holding Mary in his hands, Pyg had only one thing to say… to Mary… “Where is the money you owe me?!”

To Harley’s, Ivy’s, and Selina’s astonishment, Mary actually spoke perfect English as she begrudgingly reached into her diaper and pulled out a gigantic wad of cash to pay back Pyg. The three would later learn that “Mary” is actually Mary Louise Dahl, a grifter and former actress known as Baby-Doll, and that she has a genetic condition that leaves her physically unable to age. Also, the woman that Amygdala murdered was not Mary’s mother, but a fellow grifter that she was working with, but not that concerned about.

Outraged, Harley Quinn seized Mary and said “YOU LIED TO ME.” Mary tried to act innocent and said “I didn’t mean to?”

Later, the Pittsburgh police found Professor Pyg’s lair, thanks to Harley’s anonymous tip, where they found Amygdala, Pyg, and the monster men knocked out and Baby-Doll tied up, gagged, and holding a note that says “Don’t believe her lies”. Harley, Ivy, and Selina returned to their lives, having stolen Pyg’s owed money from him. Our story ends with Harley at the same bar again, drinking enough booze to make her forget that she wanted to be a mother…
