Description
In the city of Sunnyvale, California, 11-year-old Ben Tennyson and his classmate (and crush) Julie Yamamoto had just earned A-Pluses in their science class and qualified for a nation-wide science competition for “burgeoning young minds” arranged by the Dr. Thomas Wayne Education Grant, a foundation created and chaired by Pittsburgh, PA billionaire Bruce Wayne, president of Kane International and step-son of Dr. Thomas Wayne. Ben, Julie, and their parents were flown out to Pittsburgh to participate in the quarter-finals to finals of the competition. However, this competition, nor Ben’s seemingly-out-of-nowhere spark of genius regarding genetics (the catalyst of his and Julie’s A-plus project), are not the subject of today’s story. The first night Ben was in his hotel room with his parents Frank and Sandra, his parents were fast asleep and Ben noticed a small drone robot flying outside the window. Ben snuck off to investigate outside that night, noticing that the drone was a similar design he saw before. As his superhero identity, Ben 10, he used his “watch”, known as The Omnitrix, to transform into a flying insectoid (whom Ben calls Stinkfly) to chase after the drone. Once it noticed Stinkfly, the drone signaled a team of three combat drones to attack Ben 10. Ben had to instinctively drop the Stinkfly form to change into something combat-ready, but he was caught and unable to use the Omnitrix’s controls to do so. That’s when The Batman, the dark knight defender of Pittsburgh and secret superhero identity of Bruce Wayne, arrived to help Ben 10 fight the combat robots. Victorious over the alien drones, Batman asked Ben to return to his hotel room with his parents, but Ben said he could help Batman, as there might be more of them. Batman said, while he appreciated Ben 10’s help during the Crisis of Infinite Earths, he doesn’t want Ben to get hurt. Ben claimed that the robots they fought belong to the military of the Daemonites, an alien race from the planet Chimera Sui. Batman asked how Ben could know that, and Ben said his grandfather Max Tennyson was an agent of the now-defunct CADMUS before he retired. Max even fought a major Daemonite military officer and saved Earth from them. Realizing Ben’s ability in helping with his investigation into the alien combat robots, Batman agreed to let Ben in on it (in an ‘consultant’ role). The next night, after the first day of the competition Ben was in, Ben 10 was taken by Batman to his headquarters, The Batcave, after Ben’s mom and dad were sound asleep. Batman, in remote communication with technology expert Oracle, who is secretly Bruce’s wife Barbara Gordon-Wayne, examined both the scrapped alien military drones and the Omnitrix. Batman can indeed confirm that the Omnitrix is permanently fused to Ben’s arm, and that the Daemonite battle drones have a tracking system within them that they were able to disable. But, how many else are on Earth, let alone in Pittsburgh? But, that’s when an explosion disturbed the night air! The Daemonites and their robot army have begun the invasion! Batman and Ben 10 got to work and began fighting the alien combatants upon the streets and on the rooftops. The people of the city, panicking, began evacuating, but Frank and Sandra stayed behind to find their lost son, along with Julie and her parents. Julie was attacked by some of the Daemonite drones, but Ben, in his muscle-bound form Fourarms, fought them back with superhuman strength and two extra arms. But, in the end, the drones overloaded Fourarms with electrical surges and he collapsed, changing back to Ben Tennyson right before Julie’s eyes. The drones captured Ben and took him back to the mothership, which was hovering right above the city. Then, the entirety of the remaining Daemonite army retreated back to the mothership, no doubt regrouping for a second wave. Batman realized what was happening and made his way to the Batwing, a new battle-jet he was developing in the Batcave. Onboard the mothership, Ben was trapped in a harness-like device in a laboratory. The leader of this invading force presented himself to Ben 10: General Vilgax of Chimera Sui. Ben realized who he was, as Vilgax was the Daemonite general that his grandfather Max fought all those years ago. Amused at the thought of the human who stopped his invasion of Earth years ago, and injured his body to such an extent that he’s confined to a cyborg body, having a grandson who now possessed what he desires, Vilgax said that not only is he here to finish his conquest, he now wishes to possess the Omnitrix after seeing it in action. If Vilgax and his scientists can replicate the Omnitrix’s technology, he could create an army of meta-biological soldiers to conquer the universe. Ben said he would never give the Omnitrix to him, but Vilgax said he’ll simply amputate Ben’s arm and take it that way. A series of explosive strikes rocked the mothership and the display consoles showed American military air-fighters bombarding the ship. Vilgax’s forces fought back as Batman’s Batwing secretly docked in the alien fighters’ launch bay. Batman fought through the alien soldiers and their robots to find Ben. Vilgax and his forces were too distracted by the human forces fighting back to take the Omnitrix from Ben, and Batman reached Ben’s location to free him. Vilgax attacked Batman before he could free Ben, and in the disturbance and destruction of the ensuing fight, Ben was electrocuted while the harness trapping him became unlocked. Ben recovered and discovered soon enough that he can now change form at will and for any amount of time. Ben used his new ability to fight Vilgax as Batman made it to the control room to steer the mothership away from Pittsburgh and out of Earth’s atmosphere. When he did, he activated a countdown for the faster-than-light systems to launch the ship away from Earth. Back with Ben, he and Vilgax threw each other out of the ship and continued to fight as they crash-landed in the rural plains outside the city. Batman returned to his Batwing and chased after them before the mothership launched back to Chimera Sui space. Ben was unconscious in his human form as Batman arrived to help him, but suddenly awoke and held his hand to the gloating Vilgax. A burst of electricity flew from Ben’s hand, injuring Vilgax. He kept blasting Vilgax with electricity until his enemy was crumpled, but still alive, upon the dirt. Ben turned to Batman and threatened him in a disturbingly-familiar voice. Then, Ben passed out again. After this crisis, Ben awoke with no memory of using new powers in his human form. His parents, as well as Julie, learned of his powers and superhero life, but his mom and dad were supportive. Vilgax was detained by the Department of Extranormal Operations, as the alien general was too weak without his functioning battlesuit to resist. And as Bruce Wayne, Batman coordinated efforts to rebuild the damages to the city, but he also came to a terrifying realization...
