Description

One night in Miami, FL, at a medical research laboratory, screams of terror pierced the halls of the facility. Security guards, riddled with thin, needle-like bullets, panicked and died from cardiac distress from the horrifying hallucinations the toxins within the needles created. Those untouched by the mad doctor’s weapon were hunted down and incapacitated by the three other intruders. Dr. Jervis Crane, aka the Scarecrow, and his minions Dorothy, Tinman, and Lioness, made their way to the room containing donated human brains suspended in nutrient preservative gel. The Scarecrow’s intention is to steal and then experiment on these brains to further enhance his fear toxins’ deadly abilities. But then, a team of four young super heroes appeared to challenge the Scarecrow’s gang and save the day. They are Nightwing, Tempest, Arsenal, and Kid Flash, and together they are the Teen Titans!
As the battle progressed, Scarecrow released a gas grenade full of vaporized fear toxin as he escaped with one of the brains, but it immediately disappeared from his arms and returned to the space on the shelves where he stole it from. It was revealed that it was the magic of the secret Teen Titan recruit, Raven, that caused this. Scarecrow remotely activated the facility’s air system to disperse more fear gas as he and his gang escaped. The Teen Titans disabled the gas containers and saved the remaining security staff.
After the criminals’ defeat and escape, and after the local police secured the perimeter, the Teen Titans relocated to their new secret headquarters, currently under construction. The only Titan who remained behind was Arsenal, who began tracking down the gang’s trail.
Meanwhile, the Scarecrow’s gang reconvened at Crane’s secret laboratory so he could chew his minions out for their failure. Lioness lost her temper and held a knife to Crane’s throat, but he calmly reminded her that her daughter’s life is forfeit if Lioness disobeys her. She backed off. For their failure, Dr. Crane had hired an expert assassin to find and eliminate the Teen Titans…
A few nights later, the Teen Titans were called into a possible break in at a mall that had closed down. The team arrived without Arsenal, who was still out searching for the Scarecrow, and were assailed by a series of automated turrets. The Teen Titans took cover and began firing back, but Kid Flash was taken down by a wire trap that was placed. The assassin who set up the traps dropped from the ceiling and knocked out Kid Flash, preparing himself to attack the other heroes. Nightwing recognized the villain’s half-orange mask as the motif of Slade Wilson, a drug lord he and Raven had to deal with back in Africa. The assassin revealed himself to be Slade, but said that he now goes by the name Deathstroke
Deathstroke defeated the Teen Titans in combat and tied them up, allowing Scarecrow and his minions to find and infiltrate the heroes’ headquarters with a radio broadcast signal left by the mercenary. Scarecrow was about to inject Nightwing with a needle full of fear toxin when Lioness finally stabbed Dr. Crane in the back. Arsenal came swinging in on a cable, with Lioness’ daughter in hand, firing non-lethal rounds at Deathstroke to disorient him. With Crane down, Dorothy and Tinman also rebuked their loyalty to Scarecrow, claiming to be his hostages. Deathstroke dropped a smoke bomb and vanished.
Scarecrow was handed over to the police, his minions surrendered to the police quietly, the Teen Titans initiated the process of moving to a new HQ, and Deathstroke hasn’t been seen since. But he’ll be back…

Notes:

* Raven’s costume design is a mix of the body of the New52 costume and the hood and cape of the Teen Titans cartoon.
* Kid Flash’s costume is based on the silver one from the New52, but with gold elements instead of red.
** Kid Flash is still Wally West from the previous storyline, but he refuses to use the name Impulse from when he was Roulette’s slave.
* Garth, aka Tempest, has an armored costume that’s blue instead of red.
* Roy Harper, aka Arsenal, lost his arm while he was a unwilling minion of CADMUS. They replaced it with a fully cybernetic arm.
** He has other non-lethal ranged weapons besides his bow and arrows.
* Scarecrow is a mix of the mainstream Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter (particularly, the storybook themes).
* Lioness is Jade Nguyen, who is Cheshire from the main comics.
** She is a trained assassin from a crime syndicate until she had daughter. Scarecrow kidnapped Lian to force Jade to work for him.
* Tinman is Clifford Steele, who is Robotman in the original comics.
** Clifford is a quadruple amputee in robotic armor Scarecrow purchased from the Calculator. He’s also missing his heart, and has a prosthetic replacement.
* Dorothy’s fill name is Dorothy-Grace Choi, based on Grace from the main comics.
** She has Halloway-Byrnes disease, which give her superhuman physical ability. Scarecrow performs regular procedures on her to keep the disease from getting out of hand, and that’s how he controls her.
* After discovering the location of the Scarecrow’s gang, Arsenal learned about Lioness’ kidnapped daughter and rescued her to turn the gang against each other.
** Roy is taking a leave from the Teen Titans to look after Lian Nguyen while her mother is behind bars.

I think it goes without saying, but this is infinitely better than anything DC has done with the teen titans recently. Ever thought about sending them your resume?

Maybe Cyborg could get cybernetic replacements for his lost eye and hand and maybe a suit of armour.

Giving Scarecrow an Oz gang is kind of cool.
So Lian isn't Roy's biological daughter here?
And when/how did Raven get her powers here?

Raven was born with her powers. She's Homo magi, which is like mutantkind from Marvel.

Interesting twist on Scarecrow and a cool way to introduce (and re-introduce) a few Titan foes and allies.

Awesome to see Absolute DC again! I just realized that you gave Jade Nguyen a new identity since Tigress was taken. Makes sense to me. What's the plan for Scarecrow's other former underlings?
