Description

We return now to Themyscira, an ancient city hidden beneath the crust of the Earth, home of a long-lived race of all-female humanoids known as the Themyscrians. Diana Trevor, the hero known to the outside world as the Wonder Woman, has returned to Themyscira; this is allowed for her for, although she is human, she is a descendant of Queen Hippolyta of Themyscira. Diana and her partner Artemis, a warrior of Themyscira, had come to return to their people the Kindness Crystal, one of the Seven Virtue Crystals that had disappeared and were obtained by a high-ranking member of the Eclipso Archaeological Society. Queen Philipus, sister of the lost Hippolyta and reigning ruler of Themyscria, handed the Crystal to her attendants to return to the chamber of the corrupted warrior that the Virtue Crystals are meant to keep in check. Philipus then asked Diana to speak with her in her chambers, alone, for this was a matter of utmost importance. Philipus told Diana that while Themyscirans are long-lived, they are not immortal, and Philipus’ time will come soon enough. After the Crystals have all been returned, Philipus needs Diana to, one day, take her rightful place as the Queen of Themyscria, as she is Hippolyta’s descendant. Unfortunately, there is ancient law that must be upheld, stating that only females are allowed here, meaning that Diana’s husband Steve and their young son Michael must remain behind in the outside world, leaving Diana and her daughter Louise in this underground world. Before Diana could even contemplate for a second what her answer would be, bomb blasts and gunfire erupted from the gates leading to the outside world. Modern soldiers, bearing the logo of the paramilitary company TYGER, attacked the city and Themyscira’s best warriors cannot hold them off. In an APC storming the roads of the city was Charles Hayden, head of Eclipso, and a large team of soldiers. Bearing the final three Crystals, Chastity, Humility, and Temperance, Hayden unleashed an amalgamation of their Spirits to subdue a large contingent of warriors. Wonder Woman and Artemis, along with other Themysciran warriors who could still fight, did battle with TYGER to defend the others as Hayden and his men descended into the chamber of the corrupted warrior. He forcibly removed all of the remaining crystals from the chained-up woman, laying upon a metal altar, when Wonder Woman arrived in the chamber. She was too late. The Themysciran woman woke up, with black corruption ooze pouring from her every orifice. The metal altar twisted into some form of armor for her as she stood up. Hadyen tried to run with the crystals, but she ripped the Virtue Spirit from his body and clawed it’s mask-like face off, destroying it and incapacitating Hayden. Wonder Woman grabbed one of the Crystals Hayden had and tried to pierce the woman’s skin with it, but the woman grabbed the Crystal and shattered it in her hand. Philipus could only look on in horror and say to herself,

The Spectre has awoken…”

The Spectre made her way to the gates, intending to unleash her power on an unsuspecting world, when Wonder Woman arrived to battle. The battle ended in a standstill, with both fighters knocked to the ground. Philipus arrived to try to reason with the Spectre. She revealed that the Spectre is really Hippolyta herself, who sacrificed herself to contain the corruption within her and appointed her sister as queen. For all these centuries, Philipus was angry at her sister for foisting the responsibility upon her, but she forgives Hippolyta now, understanding the torment she felt containing the corruption. The Spectre stayed her rage and hugged her sister, her compassion evaporating the corruption inside Hippolyta to the point that reacquiring the remaining Crystals and exposing Hippolyta to them allowed Wonder Woman to fully eradicate the corruption ooze inside her. Within a few days, Hippolyta was back to normal and will soon rule the Themyscirans again, alongside her sister, as equals. Philipus also admitted she was wrong to try to force Diana to take the queenship. Diana left Themyscira in peace as she received a call from one of her Justice League teammates…

Notes:
* Charles Hayden, a character based on the Psycho Pirate, was rescued by his hired TYGER soldiers, but his mind was shattered by the Spectre’s attack. He’s now confined to a mental hospital.
** The amalgamated Spirit Hayden controlled was based on the Psycho Pirate’s design.
* The P.M.C. TYGER is originally from the video game “Batman: Arkham City”.

Nice usage of a portmanteau of both the Golden and Silver Age Psycho-Pirates.

I like you idea of making Hippolyta as the Spectre.
