Description
It was a calm night within the subterranean, technologically-advanced kingdom of Genesis, it’s real location withheld from the other peoples of Earth. Of course, it WAS peaceful, until a communications signal reverberated within the domicile of the Genesisian woman Barda, a captain of the royal guard and one of the Security Council’s top investigators. The Mother Box computer that was broadcasting the signal was in Barda’s bedroom, on her nightstand, and she reached over from her bed to respond, waking her beloved Shiloh, whom she just shared a night of passion with. The communique is from Valkyra, Barda’s commanding officer, who instructed her to come to a specified location to help with “a murder- the first in Genesis in centuries”, but to talk to no one about this but her and The Highfather, the ruler of Genesis himself. Shiloh, who is the Highfather’s son, asked her what was happening, and Barda CONSIDERED lying to him, but tells the truth and asks him not to tell anyone else, not even letting his father know that he knows about the murder. The artificial sun of Genesis was starting to dawn as Barda arrived at the crime scene. It was at the domicile of a scientist named Lonar. The forensics officers were looking over the crime scene with their own specialized Mother Boxes and Valkyra’s detachment of the Divine Guard are guarding the area. Valkyra was present and filled Barda in on what they discovered so far. There’s evidence of a break-in, but no DNA traces in the domicile beyond the victim’s, BUT they do have a cause of death: brain trauma and inter-cranial bleeding. There were no witnesses and no-one found the body, but Lonar was so paranoid about his work he had his Mother Box set up a security grid that called the Divine Guard when it was breached. Barda was asked to find and interview Lonar’s closest co-workers within the Science Council, but to keep it as close to the chest as possible; this is the first murder in a long time in Genesis, and if word spread, it could cause a wide-spread panic. The people interviewed would be told he’s recovering, medically, in a secluded location for his protection; the truth would be revealed only when they catch the perpetrator. Barda left, but noticed that a paranoid homeless man, named Stanga, was taking notes of what he could see and hear at the crime scene before bolting at the sight of Barda seeing him. Barda contacted Shiloh and asked him to keep an eye on Stanga and sabotage his “insane, one-person newsletter operation” that he’ll reveal the truth on. Barda and Solis, her usual investigation partner and Shiloh’s friend, had their first interview with Teledar, the late Lonar’s partner within the Science Council. Teledar told them that they had classified research into interdimensional observation, and that Lonar had his own classified notes he hid from everyone he knew, and Barda and Solis discerned that those notes would be neither at Lonar’s office or domicile. The two investigators went to the morgue to talk to Dr. Wal-Kar, the medical examiner. Wal-Kar explains that Lonar had no external wounds that would lead to his fatal brain-bleeding, but that there is a “path” of damaged flesh through his brain, as though it was a bullet from a gun, but with no entry or exit wounds whatsoever. Barda and Solis got to Lonar’s Mother Box and accessed it’s database, learning that the last message to or from anyone is someone aliased “Forager”. Meanwhile, with Shiloh, he spied on the hobo Stanga and began sabotaging his ramshackle newsprinting operation, run out of an abandoned storage facility. As a master escape artist, Shiloh was able to "escape" being seen by Stanga as he proceeded. Back with Barda and Solis, they traced the communique to the Infinity Club, a bar located in Genesis’ red-light district Forevertown. The investigators talk to the proprietor of the Infinity Club, “Moonrider”, and convince him to let them know where Forager is by claiming they know he provides illegal drugs here and will sic narcotics investigators on him. Back with Dr. Wal-Kar, his investigation into the crime scene and Lonar’s corpse begets a new question when the Divine Guard finally find the bullet that killed Lonar. The old question was “how did the bullet damage his brain without piercing his head?” and the new one is “Why is the bullet’s degradation fresher than Lonar’s wound?” Back with Barda and Solis, they found where Forager would be thanks to Moonrider’s info. It was an disued area in the sewers that Forager had made into his hideout, replete with a television. Barda and Solis ambushed Forager and demanded to know why he was in communication with the deceased Lonar. Forager explained that he knows the only route to the surface world that is undetected, and that Lonar needed to escape with his life for he had become fearful of one of his colleagues. Forager also had Lonar’s secret notes that Teledar mentioned, and he handed them over to Barda and Solis. As the two investigators began looking over the notes, a breaking news broadcast came on Forager’s TV, wherein Ja-Kyr, the Highfather himself, held a press conference where he admitted to hiding the truth of Lonar’s murder from the public. In the middle of the conference, Solis doubled over in pain and screamed, collapsing in a puddle of blood. As this distracted Barda, an unknown shape grabbed most of the papers and ran for it. Later, Divine Guards arrived to take Solis to the hospital and take Forager into custody. Barda and her Mother Box scanned the area and determined that the bullet literally came from nowhere to strike Solis in the spine. Looking at the notes again, Barda came to this conclusion: the bullets that killed Lonar and injured Solis were from the future! Barda reunited with Shiloh and the looked over the remaining papers further, discovering a name: Dr. Saul Erdel. Recognizing it as a surface-worlder name, they called their allies in the Justice League, who confirmed that the late Dr. Erdel worked with both their former member Dr. John Jones and their associate The Atom. Dr. Erdel’s main research was in a radioactive extraterrestrial mass called “white dwarf matter”, which can shrink matter and organisms. Barda and Shiloh returned to Wal-Kar to trade notes and look at Lonar’s Mother Box again. They realize that the security grid Lonar set up signaled the Divine Guard a long while time after the breach, instead of immediately as one would assume. They realized that the time it took was a specific number sequence when broken down in exact seconds, and when you convert the numbers into letters in the Genesisian alphabet, you get a name: Teledar. Shiloh returned to his father to make sure he’s in no danger while Barda, Valkyra, and some Divine Guards confront Teledar in his office. Teledar’s new security system, using white dwarf radiation, shoots the Guards and Valkyra and shrinks them before Barda disables it with her Megarod weapon. Teledar then throws the chunk of white dwarf matter that he obtained at Barda, hitting her in the chest and shrinking her lungs a bit. Teledar explains that he killed Lonar for the white dwarf matter, saying he’s working for two outsiders who will reward him greatly for his help in gaining the white dwarf matter. The time-travel tech he and Lonar figured out was just a bonus. As Teledar raised the gun that will fire the bullet that goes back in time and cripple Solis, Barda gained her second wind and tackled Teledar as he fired, changing the trajectory of the bullet in the past. That’s when Solis, now with a shoulder injury instead of a shattered spine, arrives and punches out Teledar. With Barda and Solis incapacitated from injuries and the rest of the Divine Guards shrunk to insect size temporarily, one of the outsiders Teledar mentioned teleported in to steal the white dwarf and the tech built around it: Kalibak! As soon as he got what he wanted, including a Mother Box, Kalibak vanished in his Boom Tube, teleportation gate tech used exclusively by the Dark Side. After her lungs regained normal size, Barda calls the Justice League again to warn them about Kalibak’s return. As for Kalibak, he met with the other outsider to deposit the stolen materials. And that entity is none other than Brainiac!
Notes:
* Dr. Wal-Kar, the medical examiner, is based on the grim reaper-like Black Racer and his human avatar Willie Walker. Wal-Kar is paraplegic, and his transport chair harkens back to Black Racer’s “skis”.
* Forevertown and the Infinity Club are a reference to the Forever People and their ally Infinity-Man.
* The plotpoint of “bullets that travel back in time” is inspired by Final Crisis.
** The time-travel tech on display here would later be perfected by Metron.
* Solis is based on Lightray.
* Highfather Ja-Kyr is named after Jack Kirby, creator of the New Gods these characters are based on.

Are this constant time travels, going to affect the time-space continuity at some point in your story????
(Not a complain, just a question)

Very good story, it reminded me of the law and order, I'm also doing my "Ultimate" version of DC and I wanted to ask you if it bothers you to use 3 or 4 of your ideas (obviously I give you credits)

Great, thank you (if you want to know what ideas are, I'm talking about the fact that Martians are parasites, the Waynes killed by patients of Arkham, Wonder woman "more Greek" and the "spectrum lantern")

There WILL be a Final Crisis... but not the one you think it will be.

Great idea making Highfather's name an homage to Jack Kirby.

....Teledar. Except in the main comics, he’s a weird floating head with Captain Cold glasses.
