On a converted former oil rig off the coast of San Francisco, California, a huge audience from all over the world was flown in by helicopter from the San Fran ports. Dr. Garrison Slate was presenting, perhaps, the biggest achievement in environmental research in the past decade and a variety of businessmen, politicians, and scientists were in attendance (along with military personnel on loan from the US Military). Dr. Slate, the founder and CEO of STAR Laboratories, had announced this event at a charity event in New York City months ago; the host of that event, Bruce Wayne, CEO of Kane International, was invited to this but couldn’t make it, so his uncle William Kane, former CEO of K.I., was here in his stead. Also here is none other than America’s newest wonder-kin William MacIntyre, President and CEO of Prometheus Corp. The presentation was underway, and Garrison Slate proudly presented "Sigma", the first in a long line of completely-carbon neutral kinetic energy-based power plants. It’s capable of powering all of San Francisco for four years while being a quarter of the size and a fraction of the budget of a normal nuclear power plant. Not to mention no risk of nuclear disaster. However, nuclear disaster was about to strike, little to the attendees’ or faculty’s knowledge.

A sizable fleet of VTOL ships attacked the platform and blew away a lot of the soldiers protecting the presentation. They landed and deployed knight-like mechanized armors wielding swords and energy shields and riding mutated, giant dogs like horses. Out of the last VTOL stepped a armored man in a crown and cape, accompanied by a woman with platinum-white hair. The crowned man announces himself as The Monarch, along with his consort Lady Quark and their army, The Atomic Knights. He proclaimed that he is taking the Sigma for himself, and will be holding for ransom. Three VTOLs, controlled by Monarch’s A.I. Roundtable, hooked cables up to Sigma to fly it away. An Atomic Knight was then blasted away by a sonic laser! Another ship, The Skyman, descended quickly and deposited members of Prometheus’ super-team, Infinity Inc., to battle Monarch and his Atomic Knights. Coordinated by field leader Cyborg, Captain Atom and Beast Boy fight against the Atomic Knights and their giant dogs while Stargirl retrieves the Sigma and STRIPE defends the civilians. Monarch tried to hold MacIntyre hostage, but Beast Boy morphed into a bullet ant and bit his bare chin, causing him distracting pain that allowed Captain Atom to blast him back without harming MacIntyre. Monarch told his lead Knight, Grayle, to order a full-scale retreat, needing to abandon the Sigma to avoid defeat at Infinity Inc.’s hands and capture. The Sigma was saved, but the invaders (including the giant dogs) completely escaped. The hero team was lauded and praised for their victory, but Stargirl was uneasy.
Back in New York City, at Prometheus’ headquarters, Stargirl aka Courtney, began infiltrating it’s labs in the dead of night, carrying her gravity-weapon with her. Her step-grandfather, Patrick aka STRIPE, was also curious and accompanied her. In the labs they could access, they found an elevator that led them to a secret lab facility in a sub-basement. In that secret lab, the two found rows upon rows of cages with experimented-on dogs in them, containers of robotic armors, cryogenic capsules with people in them (presumably the wearers of the Atomic Knight armors), and a computer with a logo for Roundtable on the screen. Patrick hacked into the computer and they found evidence that MacIntyre is responsible for creating Monarch and his army! They also found an alphabetical database of components responsible for creating Everyman, Prometheus' 'superpowers-for-sale' chemical system; the first file was A... for "Amazo". MacIntyre and Monarch appeared behind Patrick and Courtney, saying they should have left well-enough alone. Monarch fired an energy weapon that vaporized them both and Stargirl’s weapon.
The next day, a deep-fake video was presented to the entirety of Infinity Inc., claiming that Patrick is having medical complications and he and Courtney will be taking some time off from the team while he recovers and she takes care of him. In the meantime, MacIntyre will be bringing in two new Infinity Inc. members to replace them…

* As you can clearly see, Captain Atom and Monarch are not the same person, which was the original intent for the original comics’ storyline “Armageddon 2001”.
** The identity of Monarch will be revealed in due time...
* Gardener Grayle is the full name of the Atomic Knights’ field leader.
* The giant dog-mounts are a reference to the Golden Age Atomic Knights.
* Lady Quark is based on a character of the same name who first appeared in The Crisis of Infinite Earths.
* Roundtable is a reference to the Atomic Knights from “Battle For Bludhaven.”
* Infinity Inc.’s ship, The Skyman, is named after a hero from the original comics connected to the original comics’ Infinity Inc.
* Cyborg’s main weapon is his arm morphing into a sonic-laser cannon.
