B-17D, The Swoose.
The Swoose, 40-3097 is the oldest extant B-17D. It was on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The Swoose made a reconnaissance flight that day and flew one of the United States' first bombing missions during the war in the Pacific.

During July 2008, "The Swoose" was moved from National Air & Space Museum Paul Garber Facility to the USAF Museum, arriving on July 14, 2008. Visitors may see "The Swoose" in the museum's restoration facility.
