Wow, this is the perhaps the most stunning Rand fan art have seen. Amazing job with the flames and his facial expression. Keep the good work!

Thank you so much. This is actually Official art. I am an officially licensed Wheel of Time artist.
His facial expression here is one of my favorite parts, I'm really glad you like it. I've just finished a new Moiraine and am working on Lan if you're interested in seeing those.

I got so drawn to the painting, I didn't even notice the description below, Oh wow! I just recently got into WoT, I hope you excuse my ignorance. I am now surfing DA to see the character paintings, and this is by far the best Rand ever.
I can't wait to see Lan and Moiraine now!

It's totally cool. Happens sometimes. I'm really glad the art was so distracting. That's what is important.
I did the same thing when I first started reading WoT, I couldn't get enough art for it. There wasn't too much then so I started drawing it and eventually became Officially licensed. There's a WoT convention in Atlanta in April called JordanCon. Its a blast. Lots of spoilers though

I couldn't help but notice the similarities between this and "The Prince of Persia: Two Thrones" artwork. I'm a huge fan of WoT and only recently have started working on my own pieces on it. I've been trying to tie in the journey each of the main characters have undergone by visually splitting them as you have, and I must say you have done a beautiful job on it!! Did you start from scratch working through how you felt each character should be or are you still kinda developing a balance between where you think they begin changing compared to their final image??

Thanks for the comment. I had not seen the Prince of Persia: Two Thrones artwork before but I looked it up and see what you mean. The pose I chose is not very original. It's a good power pose for a man with a weapon so you're bound to come across images with a similar pose. The idea for this image though came from my imagination just before bed. No outside inspiration other than Rand himself.
Thank you! I really wanted to show all of the turmoil Rand goes through in the series and to highlight who he is. I'm thinking of doing one like this for Perrin and Mat each. Every time I try to depict a character I try to think first about who they are and then do sketches to show that. My main goal is their personality, most of all at a major moment in their life. So with each image of Rand I have done I tried my best to show him as he was in that moment in his life. This image is Rand throughout his life and who he is at the core. Every time I draw a character its always a challenge to find that balance of who they started as and who they became.

Hi Duncan, Thank you!
The wound is actually there. It's on his left side. Which is the wrong side, so I fixed it for the poster.
You can see that here and buy one of your own: www.taverentees.com/Rand_al_Th…

Thank you!
No, I had just had this idea for Rand. It would be cool to paint Perrin with Mah'alleinir but that was done for one of the eBook covers so I'm not sure how I would do it differently at this time. I will think on it.
If you are looking for an image of Perrin I have painted already, he is in these projects

This is great. After 10 years from starting this series and waiting for the next book, I finally got around to finishing it a few days ago. I can scan WoT stuff now with no fear of spoilers!
I would love to see more mat after the Tower, just my favorite character! That and Bela of course

It's tough to see the series end but I am glad that you are checking out all of the art now.
I have painted mat with his injury once here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi…
I tried to make sure his images are not spoiler so his eye is shadowed out in every image of him but the one I painted for the 2014 Calendar

Wow. This is an absolutely stunning piece! The hair looks real enough to touch, and I love the way the fire seems to be consuming his old self and forging him into who he became. The reflections and glow of the flames on Callandor really brings the sword out. I wish you had done the official art on the book covers!

I'm really happy you saw what I was going for in this piece.
I do do Official work but unfortunately was not able to do any of the covers as much as I would love to. I am contracted as an Official artist for the series so I will continue to make new work though.

This is lovely, it's great
I normally try & give some constructive criticism, so don't take it too seriously, but I've noticed that the hilt of the sword is a little wonky. It's a small quibble, considering I'm not sure how symmetrical this sword is meant to be. Also, his right arm is a bit off at the wrist - the arm leads into the wrist fine, & the hand/fingers are great but the bit in between is a little awkward.
Other than that, this whole thing is brilliant - well done!

ReddEra In reply to Elbow3 [2014-03-10 00:38:20 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
I left the arm as is but ended up changing the sword. The blade itself is slightly curved. Which is difficult to see with out it looking odd at the top. I did move the hilt more to center it. I will be able to show this version in late April.
Thanks for the critique, I really love getting those.

Absolutely the closest Rand to my in-head picture to date. I love everything about it, from the way the dragon is almost burned into his flesh, to the cool color contrast of the sword-not-a-sword. The crown looks amazing. I know everyone is raving about the fire, but allow me to bow in awe. Looks absolutely stunning.
