Description

The Reach system, previously known as Gliese 581, is a red dwarf star system located 20 light years away from Sol. Reach was originally colonised by the Disari Federation 200 years before the arrival of the Arcadian Celestial Republic. The two powers would attempt peaceful contact at first, but later declare war during the Gliza Conflict. Afterwards, the Arcadians became the sole superpower of the system attempting to develop and exploit it for the gain of its dispersed human population. Also of note is an artificial structure in the system known as the Abyss, believed to have been a wormhole generator used for interstellar travel by an as of yet unknown extra-terrestrial race.

Reach is a M-Class red dwarf star about 25% the mass of Sol and outputs much less heat energy as a result of being relatively smaller and dimmer. Consequently, the habitable zone of Reach extends between a much smaller band of 0.05 to 0.2 AU which is occupied by three tidally locked planets. Additionally, Reach is a variable star, meaning that the star experiences considerable stellar activity in the form of coronal mass ejections which the denizens of the system are forced to adapt to. The star is orbited by 6 planets, 10 moons and a dense debris field in the outer system.
