"I know she will."

Fallen Leaves has to be one of my favorite cats in the book series. He's such a tragic, lonely character, and yet he tries to remain upbeat despite being trapped in the tunnels for StarClan knows how long. For his design, I mostly stuck with the books description of him, though I did add the stripe on his tail, as well as making his toes alternate in color. Thought that would look cool as well as unique.

God, out of all the cats in the books I've read so far, I have to say Fallen Leaves is the one who tugs at my heart strings the most. I mean, it's bad enough that he drowns during his sharpclaw initiation, but then his spirit is trapped in the very tunnels he drowned in for not days, not weeks, not months, but years.

I mean, think about it. His Tribe leaves for the mountains and becomes the Tribe of Rushing Water, then some of those cats break off and become the Clan cats in the forest, and then those forest cats travel all the way back through the mountains to the lake to their ancestoral home, all while he's trapped in those dark, dank, musty tunnels, alone. And when cats do finally wander into the tunnels, he's absolutely desperate for them to stay in the tunnels with him. He's been alone for years -hell, most likely decades- so when Jaypaw, Hollypaw, Lionpaw, Breezepaw, Heatherpaw, and the WindClan kits all get lost in the tunnels, they are probably the first living cats he's seen in forever. He's desperate for them to stay, but at the same time he knows he can't keep them there, so he does the right thing and does his best to help them find a way out before they, too, drown like he did all those years ago. And I suppose you could say he was rewarded for his actions some time later when Hollyleaf came to live with him for a while, after she murdered Ashfur and ran away.

Through her he learned how to live (metaphorically, of course) with another cat again, and even how to love. But even that couldn't last. She was alive; he was dead. It could never work out, at least, not while she still breathed. So he let her go, back to the forest and to the Clans where she belonged, even though that meant he would be alone again. But all his sacrifices are rewarded when he is finally -finally- freed from his tunnel prison during the attack from the Dark Forest. Hollyleaf dies in the battle, yes, but in the end the good guys win, and Fallen Leaves can finally be with his family, Tribemates, and Hollyleaf up in the stars.

All those decades upon decades of solitude were now suddenly worthwhile.
