Description
Jai ("victorious" in Sanskrit; "jay bird" in English) is the son of Kiongozi and Rani, the brother of Kamini, the mate of Tofauti, and the father of Tanaya and Gotama.

Jai is the son of the Queen of the Night, Rani, and her consort Kion. Born first, in most other kingdoms he'd be set to take the throne after his mother passes on, but this is not so in the Night Pride. In the Night Pride, only females may inherit the throne, a rule the first Queen of the Night, Queen Kali, instilled when she first formed the pride many, many seasons ago. As such, Jai's sister, Kamini, will be the next Queen of the Night, and he...well, most likely he will end up either becoming a royal guard for his sister or end up being betrothed to another kingdom.

Jai does not like this fact one bit.

Between the two siblings, it's clear that Jai has inherited the brains of the family. Kamini is not the sharpest thorn on the thorn bush, and is unfortunately very guillable and naive. Rani, of course, does her best to fix this problem in her heir, but Jai can tell that his sister will always be the dumber of the two of them. Not only that, but she is head-strong and has a fiery temper that tends to get the best of her at the worst of times. He would be a much better ruler, what with his cooler head and better intellegence. But males can't inherit, so he'll have to do the next best thing: use his sister as a puppet Queen while he himself rules in actuallity from the shadows by her side as her advisor.

Subtly Jai manipulates his sister, gaining her trust completely as they grow up. He tells her that he loves her, only wants the best for her, and that with him by her side, she'll be the best Queen of the Night since Queen Kali herself. Kamini absorbs his words like a sponge, and by the time they're in their teens, Kamini listens to Jai more than her own mother.

It seems like everything is going to plan until Rani reveals that Jai will be heading off to the Rock Lands to marry their Crowned Princess once they both come of age. This, of course, outrages both Jai and Kamini for completely different reasons. Kamini wants to keep her brother by her side as her royal advisor when she becomes the new Queen of the Night (a role that males almost never have in the pride). Jai also wants this, but so he can continue to manipulate his sister and rule the pride the way he thinks it should be run. But Rani will not hear of it; she made this deal with the Rock Land’s King long ago, back when their cubs were infants, and she will not be the one to break the betrothal.

NOTES: Jai is the cub I created to be the son of Rani, an upcoming lioness who will appear in TLG. Now, some things here are subject to change once we learn more about Rani and her pride, but for now this is what I'm going with.
