Description
Mistle (a.k.a. "Stubby") is a short, compact, dark-gray tabby she-cat with white front paws, small, nicked ears, a scarred muzzle, a black nose, a worn, faded yellow collar studded with cats' claws and dogs' teeth, amber eyes, and part of her formerly white-tipped tail missing.Mistle was originally born a ThunderClan cat by the name of Mistlekit, born the daughter of Speckletail and Smallear. She lived happily alongside her deaf brother Snowkit without a care in the world. Even when she fell ill with whitecough, it was only a brief blip in her otherwise carefree, happy world. After all, she and her brother were going to grow up to be the best warriors in ThunderClan one day. Their aging mother was going to see to that.
However, Mistlekit's life changed drastically when, on one fateful day, the young she-kit decided to sneak out of camp and explore the forest on her own. She knew she wasn't supposed to leave camp yet, as she wasn't an apprentice or even six moons old yet, but she was too impatient to wait. As she snuck out of the den away from her sleeping mother and brother, she briefly thought about bringing Snowkit, but then quickly thought against it. His pelt was pure white - the warriors, once they figured out they were gone, would find them easily because of it and quickly end their adventure. It was bad enough her paws were white. She didn't need her brother adding to her troubles. So she used the hole in the camp wall near the dirt place, sneaking out to begin her exploration.
One she would never return home from.
At first everything was fine. Fun, even. She got to see things she'd never seen inside the camp walls. She saw birds and bees and flowers and huge trees. So many new things! But soon the sun began to dip below the sky, and Mistlekit was beginning to get hungry. She knew that by now her mother had to be awake and had to have noticed her gone. The warriors were probably out looking for her now, along with her mother.
Maybe I'll catch a mouse or a shrew! If I bring home prey, they can't be mad at me then. The little she-kit thought.
Thus she sniffed the air, searching for the scent of prey. Instead, something rancid, almost like crowfood, hit her nose. Before she could wonder what it was, a flash of ginger crossed her peripheral vision.
Was that Fireheart? Did the warriors finally find me? The kit wondered in confusion and slight disappointment as she looked around, trying to find the source of the ginger fur.
But it wasn't Fireheart.
A loud snarl suddenly ripped through the air, shaking Mistlekit's small body to the core. The she-kit quickly turned around, only to come face-to-face with a hungry fox. Mistlekit let out a squeal of fear and shock, batting at the fox's nose with tiny, unsheathed claws before quickly turning tail, running for her life. The fox let out a furious snarl before taking off after her.
"Help! Help!" the she-kit screamed as she ran, not knowing if she was running in the right direction towards camp or not, just hoping that someone could hear her cries. "Speckletail! Swiftpaw! Fireheart! Goldenflower! Someone! Anyone! HELP ME!!!"
The dark gray tabby ran as fast as her little legs could take her, but the fox was faster, quickly gaining on the young kit. She could feel it's hot, sticky breath on the tip of her white-tipped tail as she ran. Suddenly, white hot pain flaired through her from her tail all the way to the back of her skull as the fox bit down on her tail and yanked. Hard.
Mistlekit quickly fell to the forest floor with a cry, her vision spotting as pain shot all up and down her spine. The fox let out a growl as it dragged her toward it by her now mangled tail, getting ready to finish her off.
This is it. I'm going to die. Mistlekit thought with a gasp as the fox loomed over her. But...But I don't want to die! Not yet! I'm not ready to join StarClan yet!
Panic and anger renewed the kit's strength. She lashed out at the fox's face with her small claws with a hiss, clawing at anything she could reach. The fox let out another snarl of anger and picked her up by her mangled tail. Mistlekit cried out in pain, but did not stop her assult. I'm not going to die. I'm not going to die. She repeated to herself as she clawed and kicked the beast. The fox growled as it began to fling her about by her tail like some sort of toy. Fresh pain shot through Mistlekit as she was flung about like a ragdoll.
Then, as if it couldn't get any worse, Mistlekit heard a wet ripping sound as she went flying in the opposite direction from the fox. In the distance she thought she heard a scream -sounding oddly like her own voice- but she couldn't tell any more if it really was her or not. Her vision was blurry and full of black and white spots. Her entire body radiated with pain, but it mostly radiated from her tail, which felt like it was on fire. She couldn't move, and she found it hard to breath. Faintly, she could hear the fox letting out a grunt of confusion before growling again, figuring it was coming for her, but then another voice entered the fray, causing the fox to let out a yelp of pain.
The warriors...They must have found me. The she-cat thought. Briefly, a brown tabby flashed through her fading vision, being chased by the fox. Tigerclaw...Or maybe Runningwind? Either way, I'm safe now.
Then, everything went black.
When Mistlekit eventually came too, it wasn't to the feel of the fresh moss and the herby scent of the medicine cat's den like she thought she would. Instead, she was in a bright place with strangly colored walls and floors. The bed she lied on was made of the strangest yet softest moss she'd ever laid on, and many new and different sounds and scents battered her senses. When she went to sit up, she saw that some weird, cobweb material was on her tail. Or, as she noticed to her horror, what was left of her tail. Not only that, but she had something strange around her neck that she couldn't seem to get off.
"Where in StarClan's name am I? And what happened to my tail?" she breathed out in fear.
"You're in my housefolk's den, l'il kit." came a new voice. "As for your tail, well, sorry to say that fox got to it before I could get to you."
Mistlekit jumped, spinning around to face the owner. A very familiar face met her, amber eyes and all. Except, it couldn't be him, because he had a white belly and paws and the same strange thing around his neck that she had, except his had a bell.
"Who...Who are you?" Mistlekit asked with a tinge of fear. And why do you look like Tigerclaw?
"Me? Heh, I could be asking you the same question, l'il kit." the stranger said with a friendly smile. "Kits like you shouldn't be wandering off on their own, especially out in the forest like that. There're more than just foxes out there that kill you. Why, there are entire groups of savage wild cats, or so I've heard. "
Mistlekit narrowed her green eyes at the stranger, growling, "I happen to live in that forest with those "savage wildcats.""
The tom's eyes widened, then he began laughing.
"You? A wild cat? Ha ha ha! Now I've heard everything!"
"It's true! I'm a ThunderClan cat! And someday, I'm gonna be a warrior!" Mistlekit squeaked in indignation.
This made the tom pause. A thoughtful look crossed his face as he studied her.
"Did you say, "ThunderClan?""
"Uh-huh!"
"Heh...I haven't heard that name in a long time." the tom murmured whistfully as he stared into the distance. "Not since my father used to come and tell my littermates and I stories of the days he lived in the wild. I always thought they were just tall tales but...I guess he was telling the truth all along." He then looked at Mistlekit with a grin on his face. "My name is Tigger, by the way. What about you, l'il ThunderClanner?"
Mistlekit told him who she was, and the tom -Tigger- explained to her where she was and what had happened. Apparently she had ended up running to the boarder ThunderClan shared with the Twoleg place. Tigger heard her cries for help from the yard of one of his kittypet friends and went to investigate, only to find the fox spitting out part of her tail and stalking towards her limp form. In a moment of bravery and stupidity, Tigger leaped in and clawed the foxes side, distracting the fox. After leading the fox away, he rounded back and picked her up, taking her to his home where his housefolk took her to the vet - which he quickly explained to her were like the Clan cats' medicine cats. They patched her up and decided to take her in, and here she was.
Mistlekit decided to stay until she was fully healed, then she left to go home where she could see her mother and brother again, and hopefully her Clanmates could help in getting this collar off of her neck. After all, they did it with Fireheart. Tigger bid her farewell and good luck, giving her directions back and warning her to be careful of dogs, monsters, and, most importantly, cats calling themselves "BloodClan." When Mistlekit asked who these "BloodClan" cats were, as she never knew of a fifth Clan, Tigger would only say that they were not a Clan like she knew them to be, and were more rogues than anything. Other than that, he refused to say more.
So Mistlekit left Tigger and his housefolk, starting her journey back to the forest. But it wasn't long before the twisting and turning roads of the Twolegplace began to confuse her. She tried in vain to remember which way Tigger told her was the way to the forest, but eventually she realized she was completely and utterly lost, ending up deeper into the Twolegplace than she ever wanted to go. She tried asking the local kittypets and loners, but most were unhelpful at best and down right mean at worst. None were willing to share food, leaving her hungry. Scared, alone, and lost, the she-kit finally found a nice box to sleep in for the night and fell asleep.
Mistlekit is awoken the next day by a large black and white tom with many scars littering his pelt and a collar studded with the teeth and claws of cats and dogs. Terror fills her being as she gazes upon this large monstrosity of a cat, barely noticing the other, smaller ginger tom with a similar collar and a missing patch of fur on his back.
"Wh-Who are you?" the she-kit squeaked in terror.
"We should be asking you that, kit." the black and white tom snarled, his green eyes narrowed into slits. "Why are you in BloodClan territory?"
Mistlekit felt as if her veins had turned to ice. BloodClan. The cats Tigger had warned her about. They were standing right in front of her. What would they do to her? Would they hurt her? Kill her? Fear caused her voice not to work, her mouth moving but no sound coming out.
The large tom let out a snarl and lunged for her, causing her to shrink back and squeal in fear. But instead of harming her, he roughly grabbed her scruff, muttering, "I don't have time for this. You're coming with us."
"Wh-what are y-you going t-t-to do to me?" the kit squeaked in fear.
The large tom smirked around her scruff.
"Who knows? That all depends on our leader, Scourge. We might kill you. Or if you're lucky....
We'll make you into one of us, kid."

EDIT: Changed her eyes from green to amber.
NOTES: Whew! This one's a long one! Basically, this is what happens to Mistlekit (Speckletail's daughter and Snowkit's sister in Fire and Ice that strangely just vanishes into thin air and is never mentioned again) in my headcanon. This all happens sometime between Fire and Ice and Forest of Secrets, hence, why she's not mentioned in books beyond Fire and Ice. ThunderClan believes she's dead, as all they find of her is the part of her tail the fox ripped off, her scent and the foxes scent, and her blood. The only ones who ever find out the truth are Goldenflower during the battle between BloodClan and LionClan (as she faces off against her little sister in the battle and recognizes her) and Speckletail, who gets told by Goldenflower and is eventually reunited with her lost daughter towards the very end of her life.
Eventually Mistlekit, now named Mistle (and nicknamed Stubby because of her stubby tail), leaves BloodClan in search of the Clans after they leave the original forest for their new home, and though she does eventually find them, she does not rejoin them. Instead, I'm torn between her just living the rest of her life as a rogue, or journeying farther on and eventually forming a Clan of her own in an entirely new territory away from any of the known Clans. We'll see.
Oh, and as for BuckyTigger (renamed him as I realized I already had another kittypet named Bucky) the friendly kittypet, cookies if you can guess who his father is.

Indeed. Also, it said Speckletail was a queen in Into The Wild . Did she already give birth to Mistlekit and Snowkit, or is she expecting

Expecting. The Erins confirmed that Snow and Mistle were born after Cinderpaw’s accident.

I don't know much of anything about Warriors but this is cute! Will she have a mate or possibly some kits of her own in the future? :3

What a change...but it's nice to show either way, and this could have fueled Speckletail's desire to make Snowkit worthy of being a warrior...and she lost him too.
Pinestar or Jake?

While I am unfortunately able to use Mistlekit in the canon version of my warriors verse, I think I found a good place for her in an AU...that I might start writing...not going to make any promises.
I think she may be part of a scandal....
Well my 'what-if' is about if Smudge joined ThunderClan (before being neutered). Basically, a fire destroys his home and Smudge seeks shelter amongst the Clan. He ends up staying (becoming Smudgepaw) and is trained by Runningwind and later earns the warrior name of Smudgetalon.
When Cinderpelt has her accident, he kind of works with her (like Cloudtail and Brightheart) and it turns out that Cinderpelt becomes a warrior despite being crippled.
However, ThunderClan needs a medicine cat and Mistlekit is that cat. I hate how 'destiny' is used to manipulate cats into doing something they don't want. Like how Yellowfang was forced to become Sagewhisker's apprentice...it's like a cat MUST do something...one of the many reasons I hate StarClan.
Well what I am getting is that Mistletail ends up becoming romantically involved with Swiftblaze and ends up having kits with him but then he is killed and she passes her kits onto another queen...must develop this more...I like it.

Obviously there's some sort of quality that makes a medicine cat a medicine cat, at least in StarClan's eyes. Maybe those cats have an easier time connecting to their ancestors or something and that's why they get chosen (minus Mothwing, obviously). Then, of course, there are those cats with special abilities that may (or may not) make their job easier if they chose to be a medicine cat (Goosefeather, Yellowfang, Jayfeather, etc.). But Cinderpelt obviously had trouble with the whole medicine cat thing (I think she even mentioned it briefly in one or two of the books that she had trouble deciphering prophecies) because she was supposed to be a warrior from the start. Like her sister Brightheart, if she had the right training, she probably could have trained to be a warrior if she had someone to help her figure out how to move around and fight with three legs. Hell, she might have even done better if the whole leg was amputated, since it's practically useless, though that might have lowered her survival rate at the time of her injury.
As for Yellowfang, I'm not sure about her. Part of me agrees with you in that Yellowfang should have been allowed to choose her own fate. She actually liked being a warrior, and only grudgingly became a medicine cat after her abilities became too much to bare. She probably could have trained herself just like she did as a medicine cat to ignore other's pain on the battle field if she had the right help. But then again, having those abilities in the first place are a hinderance and a distraction while fighting. I think Sagewhisker and possibly someone else (it's been a while since I've read Yellowfang's) mentioned that if she's distracted, even for a second because of her abilities, she's not only endangering her own life, but the lives of others. One misstep, and someone could either get seriously hurt or worse. I don't know if StarClan gave her those abilities, or if she was born with them (it's never stated), but either way, ultimately it was probably for the best for everyone if she was out of the way and in the medicine cat's den, even if it didn't necessarily make her happy.
