"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" came Redstar's powerful yowl.

Skunkkit quivered in excitement as his mother finished up grooming him in front of the nursery. Today was the day he's been waiting for his entire young life. The day he'd finally become an apprentice was here!

"Today is a great day for our Clan. One of our kits has reached the age of six moons, and is ready to begin his training as a warrior. Skunkkit! Please step forward."

At Redstar's summon, Skunkkit bolted out from his mother's grasp, skidding to a hault in front of the Highrock where Redstar was waiting for him with his tail standing straight up in the air. Cats all around him chuckled in amusement at Skunkkit's obvious excitement, and he could hear his mother admonish him from behind. But none of that mattered to Skunkkit, for now it was time to get his apprentice name!

"Skunkkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Skunkpaw. I will be your mentor." Audiable gasps echoed around the clearing; no one expected Redstar himself to take on this new apprentice himself. Skunkpaw eyes went round in shock, and he began to quiver once more in excitement as Redstar leaped down from the Highrock, landing in front of him and touching their noses together. "I promise I will do all I can to pass down the skills I have learned onto you."

"SKUNKPAW! SKUNKPAW! SKUNKPAW!"

Skunkpaw puffed out his chest in pride as his Clanmates called out his new name. He was finally an apprentice! And not just any apprentice, but the apprentice of Redstar himself! Truely, this had to be the best day of his life, a day that could only possibly be beat when he finally earns his warrior name.

Too bad that day will never come.
