Description
"Look, there she is! Found her! I told you she'd be on her favorite sunning rock."Inira flicked her ear towards the familiar, grating voice of the Prince of the Pride Lands, followed by the pitter patter of mutliple small cub feet. Inira sighed in annoyance, wondering if the older lions in the pride had assigned her to cub-sitting duty again.
Just when I thought I finally would get a break from the little hairballs. Hooray.
"Inira! Inira!" Simba yelled, running right up to the slab of stone Inira was using to sun herself on. The Prince was quickly followed by Nala, Tama, and Malka of the Grass Lands.
"Oh, great. You brought friends." Inira said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
"Yep! Malka doesn't believe that you tell the best stories ever, so Nala, Tama, and I decided to prove him wrong and show him ourselves!" Simba said excitedly, oblivious to Inira's annoyance.
"You'll tell us a story, won't you, Inira?" Nala asked with a smile.
"Please?" all the cubs chorused together with wide, hopeful eyes.
Great. The jackle puppy eyes.
"Fine, fine. Just stop giving me that look!" the tan lioness huffed. "What do you want to hear about today?"
"How about the one about the First King of the Pride Lands?" Simba asked.
"Oh! Oh! Or how about the one about the legendary monster, Mokele Mbembe?" Tama asked with a slight growl to her voice and a grin.
"I want to hear the one about the Brightest Star, Mohatu, again!" Nala said.
"C'mon, guys. I've told you those ones about a hundred time!" Inira said with a sigh. "Ask me about something new."
As the cubs began to mumble amongst themselves, wondering what to ask about, it's Malka who finally speaks up.
"Um, what about the Pride Land's Lion Guard? Do you got any stories about them?"
Simba, Nala, and Tama all gasp, their eyes widening in excitement. However, Inira goes completely still, slack jawed.
"Yeah! Yeah! Tell us about the Lion Guard! Tell us about the Lion Guard!" Simba and Tama chant together.
"You must have stories about them, Inira. I mean, weren't your father and uncle a part of the last Guard with my dad?" Nala asked innocently.
Finally, after a few silent moments of complete shocked silence, Inira snaps her jaw shut with force, glaring at the cubs before her.
"Where did you hear about the Lion Guard? And how did you know my dad and uncle were members?"
"Uncle Mufasa told us. He said that my dad took you in after three of the Guard members were killed by hyenas. Is that true?" Nala asked.
"Really? They were killed by hyenas?" Malka murmured. "I heard a rumor that they were killed by their leader, Scar..." His eyes then flickered quickly to Nala in a slight panic. “Uh, no offense.”
"THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!" Inira roared, leaping to her feet. Her sudden reaction scared the cubs, who looked at her with wide, frightened eyes and fluffed out fur. "Hyenas killed them! HYENAS! Scar is innocent! He saved me! And don't you forget it!"
With that, Inira whirled around and ran off, leaving behind four very baffled and very ruffled cubs.

NOTES: This takes place a few months before Mufasa is killed by Scar. Inira is just a teenager here, and hasn't completely turned into her coldhearted, bitter self yet, but she's getting there. At this point, however, she's trying really hard to delude herself into believing that Scar really did save her life the day the Guard was killed, both out of fear and because she doesn't want to believe that the lion who was her dad and uncle's best friend and leader, as well as the lion who was like an uncle to her as a cub, really did murder his former friends, even if she saw it with her own eyes.
Oh, and as for how Malka knows about the Lion Guard as well as the whole "Scar killed them" rumor (which really isn't a rumor but they don't know that yet): The Pride Land's Lion Guard at this point is very well known to the other lion prides that live close by and are allies with the Pride Lands, and some kingdoms have even adopted their own version of the Lion Guard. As for the rumor that's not really a rumor, it was started by those who don't really like or trust Scar (after all, they knew he was friends with hyenas at some point, though they don't know that he still keeps in touch with them) and the other animals of the Pride Lands (who love lion pride gossip) just spread the rumor because, hey, cool story bro. Birds and migrating prey animals would continue to speak about "the Guard leader who killed his own Guard" in other kingdoms, which would then be picked up by that kingdom's pride of lions, and so on and so forth. Rumors spread fast, especially amongst the allied lion prides because of this.
On a side note, the Mokele Mbembe is an actual African legend, kinda like the Loch Ness Monster. It's mentioned in the TLK comic Mokele Mbembe.

Yep. And the slowly corrupted innocence of the adolescent.

With Scar as her caretaker, at this point it's inevitable, unfortunately.

Depends on who it was, but most likely it would have gone better. She's still be angsty and bitter (I mean, seeing your dad and uncle and their friend get murdered in front of you will do that to you), but she wouldn't become completely coldhearted and angry like she does later on. She'd also likely tell her new caretaker what happened, so Scar would probablybe exiled before he could try and kill Mufasa and the last remaining member of the Guard, Awali. To be honest, if she hadn't been discovered by Scar that day, that's probably what would have happened. She'd likely would have been taken in by Awali instead, and she would have told him what she'd seen after having some time to get over the trauma of what she'd seen. Awali would then tell Mufasa, who would then exile Scar and everyone would live happily ever after (except Scar, who would probably go to the hyenas and try to use them to take over the Pride Lands or something).

And that would be a whole 'nother ball game.

That would be a dangerous timeline too.

Yep. And similar to the first idea they had for TLK, called King of the Jungle.
