Description A beautiful drummer's rhythm becomes one with the pulse of the Earth itself, as she creates perfectly balanced sculptures of tree and stone.

At last, after all this time, the fourth and final musician of my Instrumental Elements series! The quartet is now complete! Let's JAM!

The flow of living nature and stone eons old is one of my favorite subjects for photography. Whether it be natural stone formations or the crumbling ruins of an ancient castle, built with stone that was old before the structure was first conceived, I find its combination with the pulse of nature to be one of the most soul touching dualities. Your art here captures that concept through it's sculpture of tree and stone.

There's nothing on the planet that captures the essence of tremendous age quite like stone is there? You're right, ancient rock coupled with thriving plants and forests is an extremely beautiful and moving juxtaposition. I'm glad you found my painting touching!

My best friend is a drummer, she's also a Capricorn, Earth sign, and is therefore very atuned to natural, organic rhythms. I find myself a lot calmer, a lot more grounded when she's around. She's a great friend to have! This reminds me of her.

What a beautiful association to have with my painting, thank you for sharing it! Your friend sounds like a very special person! Some people are just naturally calming to be around.

I don't know where to start! Incredible Incredible! Its such an awesome thing to be out jamming in nature and get lost in the world beat and just play....and you captured it on the nose!

Thank you so much! I wanted her to seem as if she and her music are part of their surroundings.

nice sound waves, they're faint and slightly seethrough which makes them more believable.

Thanks! Each of the 4 paintings has something done in white paint, which I hardly ever use.

Trying to make something slightly see-through is hard, I would imagine. But then, painting is hard in general. You make one titchy mistake and it ruins it. You are a lovely painter. I adore your gemstone series

I love all those little teeny details on the sari. Are you ever gunna post a close-up of that?

*pulls up a drum and starts pounding away*

Hellooooo percussion! lol

Strange.. I'm such an air baby.. but drums get me all the way! Well.. and chimes now that I think of it.. and I suppose that would be air ish...

Lol, drums will definitely pull you into the moment! Chimes would have been pretty too, but I agree, that would be more airy than earthy. Air baby? Do you mean you're an air sign? If so I guess I'm a waterbaby.

Very nice. I like the contrast of the bright orange against the more subdued green on the tree.
Is the mention of the complete quartet a hint that we'll be seeing all four together in the future?

Thank you! Hm, maybe I should photoshop them all together.

I love it! OMG, it's so beautiful and delicate, very feminine!
I hope it is just the scan, so you can modify it a little bit. Give yourself a tad more of space to the right of the canvas, so the rhythm doesn't 'kiss' the border.

redheaded-step-child In reply to faerywitch [2008-04-28 03:00:24 +0000 UTC]

Lol, you always catch that! The full painting has more room, I just can't find a scanner with a big enough scanning bed. Every so often I get my paintings scanned somewhere that has an industrial one for when I finally get my own site up and running, so they don't get oddly cropped like that. I'm glad you like it!

faerywitch In reply to redheaded-step-child [2008-04-28 04:25:21 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I'll stop pointing it out as long as the original has plenty of space, they it's fine. My scanner sucks in so many different levels that is pitiful, but I cannot afford another one right now. Hopefully with time I'll be able to pay for a decent one.

Haha don't worry about pointing it out, I just have a weirdly bad eye for cropping!

Beautiful! If I'm not mistaken, the woman is wearing a sari, right? I think it's the perfect choice, because the flow of the garment complements the curve of the tree.

You're right, it is a sari! I wanted each of my musicians to wear a unique and beautiful cultural costume, and I don't think anything is more beautiful than a sari.
