Can anyone count all of these birds?
So the old crow began his story,
"Once upon a time all the birds gathered in the forest and began to think that how come they didn't have a king? People have so many kings, animals have Lion, and we poor birds have no one to ward us through misfortune and make an order between us. Allegedly, the Eagle is called our king, but what are we to gain from it? He nests on the highest mountains flies under the sun, and looks at us only to catch one for his meal. Why can't we have a king who will care for our sorrow?
There were a lot of complaints. Everyone said that they knew: chickens chucked, geese gagged, ducks croaked, cranes flapped, small birds were beeping, in short, it was such a noise! Only one Owl sat quietly and looked wisely. Then the birds thought and said to themselves:
- Hey, listen! Here Owl is silent, probably, it knows more than all of us!
- Probably,- others said, - shoot, it has is a huge head!
- You know what? let's choose an Owl to be our king. We need a wise king very much!
- Good!Good!
So they began to bring everything they needed for the coronation: a bird's crown on a red pillow, a throne, began singing songs. And suddenly a Crow flew out of nowhere. It was not at the meeting, but now, flying over the place, saw a bird meeting and thought to herself:
"Ow, what's that?" I need to look closer!"And when the birds saw the Crow, they began to say,
- Here is the Crow flying! It is worth hearing what it says. After all, this is also a smart bird, which can catch a fish from a lake!
Crow approached, greeted the group and asked:
- What is the reason for such a gathering? What is your holiday? I this a wedding or a birthday party?
- No-no, - birds replied, - we are choosing Owl to be our king! We think Owl is the wisest of us all, so let it reign.
- Owl? The wisest? - said Crow, - Are you fools or have no eyes? Look at this scarecrow who cannot even speak a word! It is silent not for knowing everything, but for being as stupid as a stump. No, if the Owl should be our king, I'll give away my feathers and enroll myself into lizards or rats! Could you not choose at least Peacock, at least Crane, at least Nightingale - at least one can see that there is something to brag about? And after all, why do you need a new king when you have an Eagle? You say he doesn't care about you...well caring about everyone is not a royal duty! Everyone takes care of themselves. As for the weak ones, it already means a lot when they can call for the help of a stronger one in a difficult hour. His name alone, his image alone can scare an enemy. Well, who are you to scare off with the Owl? And even if you knew what a bad, thieving, mean and devious bird it is! No wonder the Owl is afraid of daylight! It has a thieving conscience, it is! At night you sleep, and the Owl sees and flies and will harm you. And in the day when you fly, when you need help, it is blind, sees nothing and sleeps in the hollow. What good is this king to you?
Hearing that, the birds thought, “The Crow says the truth. Who needs such a king?! Better leave this place and live the way we have lived before.”
And without thinking, they all flew away, each one its own way. Only the Owl and the Crow remained at the place. The Owl was sitting on the throne, waiting for the coronation and wondering why all the birds were flying away. Then the Crow began to scoff at him:
- And what, brother, are you waiting for? You'd better do not wait, there is nothing for you here. Can't you see that all the birds flew away?
...to be continued.
