Its really cool and the mix and other forms of the first four they really fit togather like I could see these being the symbol used in the show but I have to wonder who do you bend sound?

You know, ive heard that it would be more logical if the ultimate expression of airbending was breathbending! In a way, its sort of like bloodbending because you could bend all the air out of someone and/or create an air vacum around them so they would start to suffocate. Or controling the actual oxygen in ones body like bloodbending. just a thought
Also, if that were true, no wonder all the airbenders we ever come across are monks and are against fighting; because if they were, they could kill you on the spot. Ultimate and utter decimation. nuff said...

i think any airbender that can make those little air balls that they usually ride on can suck the air out of you. I think flight should be the ultimate airbending technique. Its the most difficult to achieve after all.
And technically air is much more than oxygen, and bloodbending does control oxygen since water has oxygen in it. Airbending is more about creating/controlling air currents and wind i think

The only except is that the "snow" should be turned into "cloud", because cloudbending is between waterbending and airbending, and the "plant" should be turned into "mud" by the same cause...

Very plausible. Except I think it could use a little refinement conceptually.
When we look at Fire and Earth; their purer refinements are extensions of their actual state of nature. Air turning to Sound is plausible. However, Blood shouldn't be the extension of Water. Replace Blood with Ice. Change Plant to LifeBlood. Plant Bending and Blood Bending followed the same concept. Both took control of the water within physical matter in order to control that object. Because Blood was replaced with Ice, doesn't quite follow as the intermediary between Water and Air, leaving a hole there. But my big thing is that Blood and Plant should be one in the same, and Ice should be an extension of Water, with Snow being unnecessary because it is ice.

wow, i never thought of it that way. you make some very good points. when my friend and i made this chart years ago, we were more focused on the show rather than actual logic. think of it like a leveling up system. level 1 waterbenders can bend water, ice, and everything inbetween. but it takes a skilled level 2 waterbender to be able to bloodbend, something most waterbenders are unable to do. just like how not every fire/earthbender can bend lightning/metal. soundbending was something we had to make up since we never saw anything past just regular airbending.
then there's the inbetween elements (snow, plant, lava, combustion). when we were thinking of what these inbetween elements could be, we thought more on the lines of "if we combined air and water, what would we get?" the same goes for water/earth, earth/fire, and fire/air. we chose snow for air/water based on what we saw in the beginning of the episode "Sokka's Master". we chose plant for water/earth for the episode "The Swamp". lava was from the Avatar short "Bending Battle" and combustion was thanks to Combustion Man (his attacks look like air that explodes).
thanks again for your input and i hope that i've clarified our reasoning behind our chart. maybe i should go back and add symbols for the other "elements" like ice and whatnot just for the fun of it.

AH YES i finally found this! I agree with the PlantBlood thing, but Snow/Ice is logically between Air and Water, and if you put that where Blood is, the entire chart loses its symmetry. I really wish Airbenders could bend ice, but they kind of get screwed over in the show with what sub-elements they get. Sound is definitely logical. I'm kind of confused on Combustion, though. Is that, like, explosions, or smoke? Or the Pokemon equivalent of Poison?
When I think of the sub-elements, lightning is between air and fire (because it's fire in the air), but the show did introduce it as a concentrated Firebending... I dunno, it's always the sub-elements surrounding Air that get confusing. But this is fantastic.

i like how you've got the spiral in the center of each symbol but have still made them both unique and related to each other. if i hadn't have watched the cartoon i wouldn't be able to tell your made up symbols form the real ones. nice work.

and im sure earth and air make sand bending( i no its mostly earth but seems like air also from how the show depicted it)

i would like to think that cloudbending and snowbending are just different forms of the same thing. i mean, snow comes from clouds, right?
And the reason we chose not to include sandbending was because we just thought it was a form of smaller earthbending. much like Katara rainbending.
