Description
For 's contest. Tried to go for a Nicolas Marlet/Book of Dragons style entryExtra info -Β
I figure they're easily trained, their favourite treats are meats 'flavoured' by leaving them in a compost bin for a week or two, haha. I imagine that despite their foul-smelling breath, they can be dorky, goofy companions to any viking, after training, of course. They have iron stomachs, so they can be personal dustbins for food waste. They're classed Tracker class because they can sniff out a carcass miles away, as well as good eyesight. They'll travel from island to island in search of food, only really taking a permanent settlement when it's time to make babies
Like most HTTYD dragons, they can be colourful, their main colour is usually drab, with very vibrant rings, dots or 'leopard spots' in one colour, though sometimes peppered with one or two other colours. It's most concentrated near the ridge of their spine before spreading out. There's little to no markings on the underside of the wings, however the markings are heavy on the topside. The spines on their back are also outlines in the marking colour.
From tribe to tribe they're given different myths - because of their tendancy to arrive after gruesome viking battles, some say they're the steeds of Valkyries, consuming the flesh to help free the soul from the body to be taken, or servants of Hel, for similar purposes. Back when Dragons were still being killed, these ones were usually beneficial, to an extent - they'd let them eat the flesh of their enemies, whilst fending off bodies of bretheren to take them to pyreships.
Their size varies - they can range inbetween Night Fury to Monstrous Nightlmare in comparison. Their fire is a narrow stream for better precision, as dead bodies could sometimes be flammable, and they don't want to destroy their precious food sources in a skirmish.
As most HTTYD dragons, the animal inspirations are as follows:
Vulture - long neck, search for food via air at high altitude scavenger
Rat - How i imagine them to move on the ground, opportunist
Aye-aye, for that creepy long finger
Stegosaurus - Defense mechanism
EDIT:: I won the contest!
