Description Well, I can at least say I committed enough to make a scorecard on the second season. Anyways, this season is quite an improvement from the first season. It still has some issues, but I enjoyed this season way more and this season is home to some of the show's first standouts.

The show is still very much politically centered, with a lot of these episodes being tied to some sort of political theme. The most notable example is "Lincoln Lover," but the least I can say with this season is they did a better job with their political commentary. In fact, I actually loved "Bush Comes to Dinner" because it actually provided some decent social commentary, though one thing I realized is this show is a lot better as an absurdist comedy than as a political comedy. "Dungeons & Wagons," "Black Mystery Month," and especially "Joint Custody" all did such a good job with their creative premises and unique execution, and I think the show should do more episodes like those.

Now, why is this season only one step higher than season 1 and not one giant leap? While the show did get funnier, I still think the characters aren't that great. This show at this point still has the characters acting pretty brutish (which isn't too good for a show where I meant to care for the characters), mostly with Stan, and it's also why there was a streak of four episodes I outright disliked. They were ALL episodes where Stan had a major role, and I think his character has gotten a bit annoying by this point. They actually did a good job having him go through some interesting conflicts early in the season like learning that gay people don't choose to be that way, or the episode where he got anorexia, but by the end you can see them just kind of doing the same stories of Stan being insecure over and over. I will say everyone else is fine, but like season 1 they don't quite have the edge they will have later on besides Roger, this is the season where he started having personas and these personas are the best part of his character. Even my least favorite episode of the season, "Four Little Words," was slightly saved by Roger's really funny Kevin Bacon subplot. His personas get even better in the later seasons.

Overall, this is a good season but the show can still get better. Let's see if season 3 can continue this improvement.
