Description
This is probably the biggest surprise during my rewatch of this show. I wasn't expecting this season to not just be good like season 6, but even be BETTER than season 6. Yeah, that's an unpopular opinion right there. In fact, this season was almost supreme.In-general, this season kind of brought back the charm of the earlier seasons. The previous season had this, too, but this season didn't feel the need to force Poof into some sort of role with every episode. This season just brought back the simple fun of the first five seasons into a couple of these episodes, as shown by Mice-Capades, Manic-Mom Day, Poltergeeks, and Take and Fake. The show continued to create a variety of creative plots, such as Add-a-Dad with its simply hysterical concept, Crocker of Gold being a really amazing St. Patrick's Day episode, and finally, the masterpiece that is Operation Dinkleberg which is almost a top 10 episode. This episode took what was essentially a running gag of the show and made it really interesting, plus this episode has some of the finest gags in the show.
That being said, this season's obviously not fantastic like the earlier seasons, so what made this one weaker? To put it simply, the character variety. Like I said earlier, this season did bring back some of the charm of the earlier seasons that wasn't really present too much in season 6, but that was instead replaced with overfocus of certain characters while neglecting others. I don't think you could count with your hands and feet how many Crocker/Mr. Turner exist in this season, meanwhile other characters like Timmy's classmates or characters introduced in prior seasons such as the Pixies or Chip Skylark seemed to completely disappear from existence. I wouldn't mind this too much but after watching so many episodes which just follow the same shtick, it starts to get kind of old. That being said I don' think most of these episodes are bad, I just felt they could've replaced these episodes with episodes focusing on some more underused characters.
This season is also home to the most weak episodes the show has ever seen so far, with 12 of them. Now to be fair a lot of these episodes came around the middle, but this still shows that overall this season felt a bit more bland than previous seasons. When it wanted to, it can get extremely creative and hilarious as shown by the episodes rated fantastic, but some of these episodes were simply either boring or had problems that would further plague the show moving forward (Crocker Shocker and Cosmo Rules were more "breaking da rules because why not" episodes, Farm Pit was just 11 minutes of characters being frustrating to watch).
Lastly I'll talk about the new character, Foop. I'll admit his first episode, Anti-Poof (have no idea why they didn't name him this but ok) was actually really good and his character showcased a good menace to it while also being humorous when it comes to his weaknesses. However his two follow-up episodes here, Playdate of Doom and Spellementary School, turned out to be some of the weakest content the season provided, since both these episodes amounted to being extremely childish with his character completely losing his edge. It's a shame because he had potential.
Overall, while this season is flawed it's still a welcome surprise, and I'm glad this show is still maintaining a good quality this far into the game even if now we have to deal with more duds and missed opportunities. Only 3 more seasons to go.
