Congratulations on the sale of this one.
What is very significant is that the reflection has an eye that the dejected figure doesn't realise, or show. For me, this is a sign of the eternally surviving human spirit. He's not going to give up just yet, his reflection proves this. Even if only we know and he doesn't yet acknowledge. It's there. It's dramatic irony. Β

I'm not that optimistic either but if hope goes the destructive forces in the world win by default.
Hope is not enough, of course, each of us needs to have fighting spirit. That is what gives hope its power to overcome what seems impossible.
To me, the figure in your image's reflection has this spark. So the reflection's owner must have it too, whether he knows his own power yet or not.

I see your work pop up all the time in the pen & ink groups I belong to. I just wanted to say that it seems to me to just get better and better. Your inclusion of outside elements like this one (or the swing, or the crucifix) just enhance the pictures. You have a unique vision...I could see you illustrating Kafka. It's a very different style from Giacometti, but it expresses some of the same modern angst.
