Whereas pokemon special got a wild girl for a rival, yugioh 5ds got a hammy professional rival and the unholy expy of lucy with witch like powers, digimon went for a cruel rival in an anime that went into full deconstruction of the monster tamer genre, with a jerkass rival who was only in it for the competition and who would later get her own expy in xros wars
