BOY HOWDY, HI HELLO.

I'm what they may call..."rusty." As in, I don't recall the last time I even touched a set of drawing pencils, much less used them. But I'd had the itch for months now and, after some gentle prodding from a sweet acquaintance recently, decided to just throw a few bucks out for a cheap starter set.

I know this is a hot mess in terms of shading and texture, but I'm surprised I could even accomplish this! What I was looking for is all of the hair at and below the ear. I'm not totally upset by the bun, as I eliminated visible hair ties from the photo and now I know I should have included them, 'cause the top part of the knot is yikes.

The photo reference I had had some complex and soft lighting, when I was mostly looking for hair practice, so when I tried to simplify the light source in the sketch it definitely backfired and is kind of all over the place, but for not having drawn in almost ten years I think this is passable! I can't wait to work on other studies and figures.
