Description
THE WHYThe inspiration for this design was my avid love of reading fantasy books. That feeling when you curl up in bed or a comfy sofa with one of your favourite fantasy books is second-to-none.
A few people have asked me the significance of the term Requiem. For clarification, it's not a reference to the mass for the dead. It's used in its accusative Latin case; meaning 'rest' or 'repose'. The reason for this name is drawn from the Latin phrase in the lower part of the parchment.
The phrase reads: 'in omnibus requiem quaesivi, et nusquam inveni nisi in angulo cum libro'. This is a Thomas à Kempis quote. Translated, this means: 'Everywhere I have searched for peace and nowhere found it, except in a corner with a book.' This phrase has particular resonance with me, for the obvious reasons mentioned above.
This was designed to be a blog layout, although I've omitted certain things like a scroll bar because I don't actually intend to create a blog at this point in time. I just wanted to design something fantastical (pun intended).
THE DETAILS
This took around 3-4 days to do, on and off. Probably a total of 20 hours. Although I have no actual clue what the exact time was. I was wildly artistic one moment, and wildly playing TF2 the next.
The parchment by far took the longest. As I'm an amateur designer (I have no qualms admitting this) there were probably much more efficient ways of achieving the same effect. But it was satisfying nonetheless.
THE TEXT
The text is from Patrick Rothfuss' book 'The Name of The Wind.' This is easily one of my most favourite fantasy novels, hands-down.
Check out his website Patrick Rothfuss . His blog is bar none one of the most amusing I have ever read. Not only is he a brilliant writer, but he's a people person too. What more can you ask for?
