Description
Previous cycles can be found in this folder: Animated
I sorta haven't done much animation lately, probably because I know that I'll be exposed to more than enough of it as soon as my next school year starts :'I
But alas, can't stay away too long, felt the need to take another swing at the classic runcycle inbetween other stuff
Didn't look at any specific reference this time, which is why I went with some random feline-looking hybrid creature. So any errors come from trying to improvise my way through things.
My personal critique would be: chest is too stationary, would need either slightly more lift and sink / or up-down tilt
Gotta convey dat WEIGHt better >:0 give it sum OOMPH
- Animated in Krita -
there are actually only 8 drawn frames but they are spliced with some duplicate frames that have been slightly stretched and squashed (just wanted to see how it looks)
Not every frame has been messed with that way, because it ended up looking too shaky,, but with a handful tweened inbetweens it makes for a less mechanical feel? Like the "camera" is less stationary in a way.
In total there are 16 frames at 22 frames/sec I think

it looks so sturdy, stiff and solid and showing that this animal has some serious form and all that weight.Lots of people forget it and make the stuff fly and here: A real fricking animal, making the ground shake as he runs, using every part he has.Awesome work

gorgeous.ย Its excellent, because it helps to understand the anatomical shape of the animalย in addition to the movement

"My personal critique would be: chest is too stationary, would need either slightly more lift and sink / or up-down tilt" I was thinking exactly this, the animal looks heavy and needs some sort of indicator of that weight as it lands-- stellar work, regardless!

I like how you made your own creature for this! I think the movement in this is beautiful and so naturalย

It's really good!! especially if you did it without reference. I've made 3 canine run cycles before, and I too seem to get the chest a bit too stationary.
I've stared at it for a few minutesย trying to pick up any constructive critique, and the only additional things I can say is that it feels like its right hind leg is giving off much more power than its left - and that may be because it looks like it hits the ground further under the body and stays in the air for a longer time

Excellent job on this animation overall! Can't wait for more! If it's not too much to ask, could you leave comments on a few of my animation videos? Anything I can make improvements on would be great.

Oh wow if you just stare at one spot long enough, it seems that the creature is kinda shifting back and forth as it runs (Or that the camera is moving left and right slightly)

Well, I didn't feel like doing an animation of one specific animal, because then I'd want to do it as accurately as possible. Which would require me to do it off of reference, and need me to give way more attention to detail. I've not yet done a proper cycle off of a feline, so the anatomical blank spots are filled in with whatever other animals I am more familiar with. With this one, I just wanted to do something for fun, not educational
Short answer: I felt like it :I

How do you like working in Krita for animation?
I had it for a while as an illustration program until I got Clip Studio Paint EX as a gift, and while I've been enjoying CSP, I recently discovered that it can't export gifs with a transparent background while Krita can. I'm hesitant to re-download Krita just for this singular addition, especially since I'm just getting used to using CSP and working with animation in general. However, your art and animations have been a huge inspiration to me, and a big motivator for me wanting to actually learn more about animation and how to animate.
I'm really quite torn over it all, and a second opinion on the decision from a much more practiced artist would be appreciated.

Do you possibly remember where you've heard of the transparent animation feature in Krita? I've done my own research and tries but didn't manage to get a transparent animated gif myself, but maybe I missed something. From what forums I could find on the topic it seemed to either be a really complex process (for someone with barely any computer knowledge whatsoever) or make for bad quality gifs.
Still, Krita is really great for what it is (a free program) but I have used it mainly for simple rough line animations. For Illustration I've always used an old Photoshop version. I have done some colored animations in Krita too, but the process felt very slow and messy. Thus I'm planning to get a program like Harmony (previously called ToonBoom) as soon as I have better computer before I really get into colored animated stuff.
(Why toonboom? well simply because I was introduced to it during my internship at an animation studio, so I at least know some basics on how to animate in it)
If CPS feels like a good fit for you, then there you have your answer! If Krita can export transparent gifs, then learning animation in that program wouldn't take too much time either! It's not like you'll suddenly forget how CPS works once you get familiar with Krita's animation. (it'll at best just take you a minute or two to get used to the other program again when switching)

I was actually checking out a few tutorials comparing Krita to other programs, and the capability to export transparent gifs and import audio files was one of the big things that drew my attention, since they were things that very much aren't available in CSP (though it's not a deal breaker since I'm just starting out).
CSP, especially the high end version, works like a cross between Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai. It's editing capabilities remind me very much of Photoshop, but it's natural feeling brushes and smoothing give me a very PTS vibe. I've found it a really nice balance, though it took me a bit to get used to it.
Thank you for responding, it's really awesome to hear that A) other people use multiple programs too, and B) are having just as many hiccups and annoyances with programs as me. XD

Very consistent. You have no idea how valuable your talents are in animation. Not many people can do animals anymore; especially in 3D. Great work

How do you animate in Krita?? Could you sent a tutorial or tell me how to do it..?

Weeelll I went through this really complex multi-step process to find that info, but I think I can convey it via text,, so here we go:
I went to google
and typed in "how to animate in krita"
and clicked on one of the first videos that came up and there you have it ;333
But if you want specifics, I think this video was the one I picked to get started www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKOY4jโฆ
If you're asking how to animate in general, then that's a bit more complicated and you'd simply need to do some more research on that as well
Here are some videos that helped me understand animation:

I also recommend getting the book "animator's survival kit" by Richard Williams
