Description I ..... barely did 9 drawings that could be called studies, and only 2 of them where actual shape-studies
how am I already feeling like I've improved
what is happening

I now can add lines around the nostrils without it automatically looking like a pigs nose???????
Some of the stuff is still wonky, like eye-placement and overall proportions
but still... I can --see-- the face shape!??! it doesn't feel like a guessing game anymore when placing the jawline??

....
Ohgod I really hope this isn't just one of those days where everything works magically well, only for the next day to have forgotten it all

...
I'll still do some more studies

Just as comparison: somefaces -- i try
There's a similar upward facing mouth-open one in that one too, and that's only a couple days ago???

ummuuhmm ok lets see what I -think- I've learned untill now
-noses is usually what sticks out the most out of the face(european style)
-imagine a rectangular long box for the bridge,, /  \ diagonal slopes on both side merging cheeks with bridge,, round ball / pyramid / diamond shape for nose tip, and "????" for nostril flaps(?) it's triangular but also round, and curves around nostril hole (???)
-dont bullshit the nostril hole-shape, even when you barely see it ( I think bullshiting the hole-shape might be the number 1 culprit of the pig-snout syndrome ((unless you want that look, then go for it!)) )
...-but because the nostril shape is really specific, trying to improvise it might usually end badly without you knowing why
- a good nose starts with a good brow-ridge announcing the nose (??????)? (+the curves of the eye-socket that point to the nose)

or instead of me listing stuff I barely can grasp myself; here's someone who sounds like he knows what he's talking about: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HDyk4…

Sorry for barging in here but I am so happy to see someone recommending Sinus Sinix. I'm loving his videos and his humour.

Also just wow to your humans. I've been trying to human in forever now. Guess I should actually do studies, but it always frustrates me a ton. Ooh well xD
Good luck in further practicing tho :3

His videos are really damn helpful!! and yeah studies always felt more like I'm wasn't really moving forward, but maybe I simply didn't often enough actually -study- what I was trying to replicate? Like analyzing the shapes, and dimensions, breaking it down to geometric forms

Hell yeah they are!
Yes, that's actually quite important.
I really suck at drawing geometrics tho, guess I'll have to fill a sketchbook with pyramids and cubes at some point to actually become better xD

Oh fuck you really did improve...
Man, I feel like those facial impressions look more right and overall perspectively better than every face I ever drew

Yup, practice is the only way to improve. When I first started drawing people faces, it took me like 10 filled pages before i even got close to understanding how to make different face shapes. And im still struggling even today. Why has drawing gotta be so hard...

I legit don't see a problem??
Both studies look good tbh

Well I wouldn't call either "studies" per se :'0 since I didn't actually look at reference or anything,, When talking about studies I meant this stuff:
The differences of the "before and after", is probably more apparent to me, since I it -feels- like I understand the facial dimensions better when drawing, instead of just guessing what might look good.
