Description yeahh boyy, some filler stuff to post, because Im gonna be at a wedding today aaahhhhhh and probably shouldnt be at the computer at all at the moment, but we're all just waiting around not doing much right now

----

anyway; I still can't achieve the exact kind of faces that I want to achieve
but what I've learned in the mean time: I should just draw zombie-folk from now on.....

but for real though, zombies might be the key to everything
not enough details to render?  rotten flesh
coloring human skin makes things look really weird?  dead skin
general feeling of uncanny-valley when trying to do normal?  its now a horror trope
face shape looks too generic?  show some bone structure; oooh those deep eye sockets are on fleek; dang those contours on that jaw bone thooo; and dem highlights on dem nasal bones yehboiiii

...i apologize for that

I freakin' love this and the description. Your learning Remarin and that's all you can do until perfection finds itself in your style. Personally, only you know when you've reached your goal in how you want your art too look.

And, yyyyeeeah boyyy, dem zombafied lads and ladettes are makin' the rest jellyyyy

You can do it! I think the two on the top right got closest to conquering what you were complaining about before. I can feel the depth of their ocular cavity, get an impression of the three dimensionality of their features. In comparison the up-tilted head right below them seems strangely flattened. Her mouth doesn't sit quite right - the jaw curve should be tighter than the eye curve. I know you know this because you literally did it on the one directly above it. My recommendation is to try and avoid being so idiomatic (using symbolic lines that you are used to drawing) and to build up some faces from scratch, just as a study.

Now please don't be mad and excuse the presumptuousness, but I drew some basic blocking lines on some of these faces. I was looking at your previous entry and from what I can tell the main difference is how you use line to imply form, especially in establishing the shape of the skull. So I did some (at least in one case kind of ugly) shading lines to imply the shapes of the heads. Now, these are completely unnecessary, especially if you plan to color them, but will help add "weight" to your sketches and make them seem more similar to your animals, which seems to be what you want. But to completely honest these are already solid enough that most stylized/comic artists would be happy with them and call it a day.

But I'm only saying this because you, personally, seem so displeased with what you have. I think these are great. You shouldn't be unhappy with them. None of them were in any way "bad" or needed fixing in a more fundamental way.

Also that one kind of by itself in the middle looks a bit like Damien from Dream Daddy :3

Well the issue is that adding shading lines doesn't look good when I do it either :'0 it always felt like the skin simply got "dirtier" instead of more "dramatic" as adding shading usually should do,, and that's probably still because I'm not yet very familiar the facial plane-changes and such. But alas, like I mentioned, if I for the mean time experiment with zombie faces, I won't have to worry too much about making skin look clean and smooth

Though I think you're right with the needing to stop drawing lines that are only supposed to imply form and shape (for now at least) and actually put some effort into sculpting the shapes of the face. Construction first, simplification later,, it's obvious but it feels simply like I just sometimes seem to "get it" and tend to ignore the times where it just looks wrong (like the up-tilted one, I wanted to include that, since I also wanted to show that there's still some major struggle going on x: )

I mean, struggling means you're trying and that means you're learning!

But like I said before, you're already an awesome artist. I actually first saw your stuff in a speed painting video on Youtube and something really clicked in my head watching you put together the hands. It actually helped me a lot in a piece I made later. Growth and getting better is different for everyone - but just making the effort is the most important part.

I was introduced to the concept of cute zombies by seeing this artist's work: www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_E__G…

These are looking very good but as a possible critique: I think an issue you may be running into is that sometimes the nose and eyes are a little too big. Especially in the middle row (ish) the three faces all have very wide noses, not that there's anything wrong with wide noses, as some people do have them, but some people also have very skinny and pointy noses (something I still struggle with as well).

The top middle one looks absolutely lovely, though

Noses are weird, proportions are also weird, the eyes probably look too big because the rest of my style tries to be semi-realistic
why cant everything be dogs or cats

i love how these turned out actually
the top right two turned up the best
I think that is as much details as you need when it comes to human faces, any more detail would be uncanny and just too much.Since human faces are much smoother than any other animal's, the rest of the detail can be achieved through the shading and painting. You can also add detail by making hair as detailed as possible?

still better than I could do

Seriously though, if you ever figure out the secret to human facial structure, do share. Please. Though honestly it does look fine to me as is, but I understand not being where YOU want to be, personally. But you got this!

Also nice zombies XD rotting face for the win
