I always thought this was a bit more of a stylized angle for the MLP style. Not unlike how Celestia or the other princesses hold their heads up, and with more intimidation factor. I like it.

2d films should be revived,I mean everything has been 3D lately,but Sponge out of water combined with both 2d 3D I some ways ,but they should bring back 2d movies like how this movie is gonna be,it's Awsome so far,this pony has already shown to be quite a party crasher.
