Description Yeah
I made those cosplays :3
It's a simple enough tutorial to follow, right?
I made this so that ~master-deus would stop asking how to make one. (Sorry, It isn't easy to explain over the phone and stuff)

Sleeves are a pain in the ass.
WHAT YOU DO: Trace the sleeve of a shirt that fits you very well. Make sure you leave enough room for seam allowance.

FOR GUYS: Use the same measurements as you would if you were a chick. The widest part on your chest is really important to have the shirt fit you!!!

Thank you, ~NickIzumi for being my model again :3
Characters at the bottom: Setsuna F. Seiei and Mr.Bushido from Gundam 00

Edit 99 favourites???
Seriously, thank you for liking this that much!
I really hope it helps everyone who's favourited it~~!
EDIT END OF FEB 2012
WHAT THE HELL YOU GUYS, 166 Favourites?
Okay.
I'll bite.
You really find this to be that good of a tutorial?

Can you please tell me how to do step 3? I don't know how to make patterns. Please help me!

Basically this means how things will fit on the fabric. It's shown in step 4.
Keep in mind that some fabrics only come in certain widths, such as 45" or 60" (most common in the US)

I know that part T_T I just have lots of trouble making patterns in general. From plushies- to clothes. I have much trouble with it. Tips or possibly a separate tutorial? =S Sorry for that trouble, I've been searching for the answer for a LONG time QnQ

I don;t actually have a separate pattern tutorial, other than using the shirt you're tracing as a pattern.
Pattern modification/creation can easily be googled though. It takes a while to get the hang of, however.

I honestly recommend the trial and error system if you can afford it.
If you can't afford it, have someone help pin things to you, or pin things to fit them as practice. all the folds that you pin into the fabric become empty space that are not represented in a paper pattern. (like adding darts for a fitted seam)

o-okay. I'll try the pinning things part. Or maybe I can cut up an old shirt at the seams... sorry for being a pain. Thanks lots ^u^

Indeed, I have to make Kurama's outfit for Nobrand and I've never made a costume like that. Now all I need is something on doing pants inseams and collars.

RenaInnocenti In reply to PixelMagus [2010-10-07 00:29:31 +0000 UTC]

if it's a mandarin collar, it's really, really easy
you measure how high you want it
and then you double that. You then measure around your neck and cut so there's enough seam allowance.
:3

Pants are difficult, and I really suggest getting a pattern from a store.
(Seriously, I've never been successful at making my own pants yet)

I should really just go to Hancock and see if they have some patterns for me. Hopefully they''ll still have some of the Halloween ones there and I can find a kung fu suit or something Chinese oriented.
